The campaign advertised 4K video, AI bird identification and app alerts. But those promises describe the original concept—not necessarily a product you can order today. Sheggell’s current store clearly lists a $129 Smart Grain Feeder and an $89 sale-price pole; it does not clearly list the complete camera-and-birdbath station as a current retail bundle.
What was the Sheggell Bird Oasis?
Sheggell describes itself as a connected bird-feeding startup founded in 2023. Its 2024 Kickstarter campaign presented an expandable backyard station, sometimes described as a “bird oasis.” The idea was to bring feeding, bathing and wildlife viewing together around a pole with adjustable branches and modular accessories.
The original campaign feature set included a seed feeder intended to deter squirrels, a fan and humidity sensor designed to keep seed drier, a circulating and filtered birdbath, and an optional hummingbird feeder. A solar-assisted camera and rechargeable battery were meant to support app-based viewing and alerts. Sheggell also advertised AI identification of more than 12,000 species, a 4K camera, night recording and continuous operation. These are campaign claims, not independently verified performance results. New Atlas’s 2024 coverage and a company announcement carried by Yahoo Finance describe the promoted system.
The “pool” in the headline means a birdbath or water feature, not a swimming pool. The proposed water module circulated and filtered water, but filtration would not remove the need to clean the basin and change water.

What Sheggell lists for sale now
The current official store listing surfaced for this article is narrower than the original all-in-one concept:
- Smart Grain Feeder: $129. The official listing shows it as in stock and gives it a 3 L (0.79 gal) seed capacity.
- Bird Feeder Pole: $89 sale price, reduced from $99 on the official collection page. Do not assume this makes the current feeder pole-mount compatible: the feeder’s own listing says it can only be suspended. Confirm the exact configuration with Sheggell before ordering.
The store advertises free shipping on orders over $99 and a one-year warranty. Check the terms for your location and confirm which components the warranty covers. The current listings do not clearly establish that the original full Bird Oasis—including its camera, filtered birdbath and hummingbird module—is available as a retail package. The original Kickstarter pricing is historical, not a current quote: November 2024 coverage reported $249 for the 12-piece set with the hummingbird add-on, $219 without it, $74 for the seed feeder and $41 for the birdbath. The campaign described April 2025 as its planned shipping date. Those prices and promises should not be used to infer today’s package contents or availability.
What the current Smart Grain Feeder does
According to Sheggell’s product page, the feeder measures 220 × 220 × 366 mm (about 8.66 × 8.66 × 14.41 inches), weighs 3.31 lb and holds 3 L of seed. It has a 4.4 Ah, 3.7 V lithium battery, with solar or USB-C charging. Sheggell estimates about a week of operation after a full charge and around 4.5 hours for Type-C charging. Runtime will depend on sunlight, temperature, battery age, installation and how often the device activates. The unit is rated IPX5 and for operation from 14°F to 122°F; it is not a promise of uninterrupted operation in every weather condition.

The feeder uses weight detection to respond to heavier visitors. Sheggell says it can play deterrent sounds and that the feeding port can lift or close under certain conditions. That makes it squirrel-deterring, not squirrel-proof. Detection can be inconsistent, and repeated sounds may be unwelcome in a quiet or closely spaced neighborhood. Placement and a properly installed physical baffle can matter more than relying on sound alone.
The company also says a fan and humidity sensor help reduce moisture in the food compartment. That may help manage dampness, but it does not make cleaning unnecessary or prove that seed cannot spoil. Inspect the feeder, remove wet or contaminated food, clean the tray and compartment, and avoid filling it beyond what birds will eat during prolonged wet weather. Keep reserve seed in a dry, rodent-proof container.

In particular, “24/7 video stream” should be read as the intended experience described in campaign materials, not proof of uninterrupted live streaming. Solar power cannot guarantee uptime through extended cloud, shade or winter conditions, and live remote viewing depends on a communications connection. The available information does not establish the camera’s Wi-Fi requirements, cloud-storage policy, local recording options or data retention.

- Plan the hanging location. The current feeder is listed as hanging-only. Choose a secure support and check that birds can approach safely. If you need a pole-mounted feeder, verify compatibility before buying.
- Expect to manage power. Solar is an assist, not a guarantee of continuous charging. Keep the panel exposed to useful sunlight and clear of dirt and debris. Shade, temperature, heavy use and battery age can reduce runtime; USB-C charging is the backup option listed by Sheggell.
- Keep seed and hardware clean. A humidity system cannot replace checking for wet, clumped or spoiled seed and cleaning food-contact surfaces.
- Maintain any water feature separately. A circulating or filtered bath can still collect algae, droppings and pathogens. Change and clean water regularly, and confirm that replacement filters and pump parts are available before relying on a module.
- Consider sound and wildlife. Test deterrent settings with neighbors and nearby birds in mind. If squirrels still reach the food, adjust placement, remove nearby launch points and use a physical baffle rather than simply increasing sound activation.
If the feeder will not power on, Sheggell’s guidance is to charge it with a data cable and check the indicator light; if it stays off, contact support. If the deterrent does not sound, the company advises restarting the unit, checking silent mode and the sound-button activation window, checking charge and sensitivity, and cleaning the grain compartment. Persistent problems should go to support. For ineffective solar charging, check panel orientation, shade and debris, consider battery condition and temperature, and use USB-C to recharge.

Who is it for?
The currently listed Smart Grain Feeder may suit someone who wants an automated feeder with moisture-management and squirrel-deterrent features and is comfortable with charging, settings and routine upkeep. It is a less obvious fit if you need a guaranteed camera system, a confirmed birdbath, independently tested AI accuracy, pole mounting, or a low-maintenance device that works without an app or battery.
For a simpler yard, a conventional feeder with a well-positioned physical baffle, a separate birdbath and—if desired—a standalone wildlife camera can be easier to repair or replace component by component. For a camera-first option, NestIQ’s official listing advertises a 1080p camera, night vision, solar power with backup battery and AI recognition. Its listing is a separate company’s product information, not independent verification; it does not present the same integrated filtered-bath concept.
Questions to settle before ordering
Ask Sheggell to confirm in writing what is included in the exact product and price you are considering. For any camera or bath, establish whether it is included or sold separately, whether app viewing and identification work now, whether a subscription is required, and what internet connection and storage options are supported. Check that replacement filters, batteries, pumps and charging parts can be obtained; confirm shipping to your country and warranty coverage for batteries, cameras and water components. Finally, verify mounting compatibility and what to do if solar charging cannot maintain the battery.
These checks matter especially because the Bird Oasis began as a Kickstarter project. Crowdfunding package contents, delivery expectations and later retail products can differ. The original campaign’s planned dates and feature list are not proof of current availability or ongoing software support.
