Check the stated origin
Confirm that the entry names the United States as the breed’s origin. The American English Coonhound is linked with the Southern United States, while the American Eskimo Dog is described as originating in Germany despite its United States listing.
Compare recorded size
Use the height, weight and life expectancy figures shown for a breed. Figures may not appear for every entry, so compare the fields that are present rather than filling gaps with estimates.
Match the original role
Breed descriptions identify different roles. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is predominantly used as a guard dog, the American Leopard Hound is a hunting dog, and the American Cocker Spaniel is a sporting dog.
Look at breed type
Type can help narrow a choice. The Alaskan Klee Kai is a companion-sized spitz-type dog, the American Bulldog is mastiff-type, and the American Hairless Terrier is a companion dog developed from naturally hairless Rat Terriers.
Breed entries are arranged A to Z. They are not ranked, and no paid places are used.
Software lists use Animalso’s own score from maker pages. The score considers published prices, a free plan or trial, iPhone and Android apps, client self-booking, reminders and owner messages, animal records, documentation quality, how recently pages were read, and the research order as a tie-breaker. Numbered places near the top of a software list can be bought.
