Official U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ohio EPA-approved watershed documents list saugeye, bass, white bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish in Tappan Lake. The watershed plan says the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) stocks the lake annually with these fish groups.
What the official sources say
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ lake description identifies Tappan Lake as an annually stocked ODNR lake and names saugeye, bass, white bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. The Tappan Lake Watershed Version 1.0, approved by the Ohio EPA on November 7, 2025, reports the same annual stocking information.
The official summaries use broad labels for “bass” and “catfish.” They do not provide a complete species-by-species biological inventory, population estimates, or stocking quantities. Therefore, the list confirms the fish groups documented by those agencies but should not be treated as an exhaustive list of every fish in the lake.
Additional fish listed by a secondary fishing guide
GoFishOhio’s supplemental fishing map describes opportunities for the following additional or more specific fish:
#1 Best Overall
- FIELD GUIDE TO FRESHWATER FISH
- largemouth bass
- channel catfish
- walleye
- perch
- bullheads
- sunfish
This is secondary guide information, not an official comprehensive inventory. In particular, the official summaries do not specify which bass or catfish species are represented beyond their broad labels.
What “stocked annually” means
Annual ODNR stocking indicates a continuing management program, but the available documents do not state how many fish are released, when each species is stocked, or how stocking compares with natural reproduction. Stocking also does not guarantee that every listed fish will be present in equal numbers or easy to catch.

Before you keep a fish
Check the current Ohio fishing regulations before retaining a catch. Statewide rules and site-specific requirements can change, and the available material does not establish a complete Tappan Lake limit table for every listed fish. Confirm the current season, size limits, daily limits, and any special provisions through Ohio’s current regulations before fishing.

Tappan Lake Marina is identified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as offering fishing supplies and related services. ODNR also maintains a lake-fishing GIS service with fish-attractor and hotspot layers. The available service description does not identify which mapped features apply specifically to Tappan Lake, so verify the underlying lake entry rather than assuming a hotspot or attractor applies.
