The low-priced example was an Imagitarium Baby Betta; the high-priced example was a Male Thai Flag Halfmoon Betta. These are changing listing prices, not a guaranteed range at every Petco store.

Petco’s live betta category displayed the following endpoints in U.S. dollars on September 30, 2026. Check the current Petco betta listings for the price and exact variety available now.

Does the online price mean the fish is available at your store?
No. Petco notes that varieties shown online may not all be available in stores. Prices, promotions, and local stock can change, so select your store or contact it to confirm availability and the current price before making a trip. Petco’s betta shop and FAQ cover its online and in-store offerings.

What else should you budget for?
The listed price is for the fish, not its habitat or ongoing care. Petco says a 5-gallon aquarium is ideal and recommends adequate filtration and regular water changes. Its guidance also calls for conditioned water, suitable temperature, habitat features, and appropriate feeding. The sources do not establish a complete setup budget, so the fish price alone cannot tell you what responsible ownership will cost.
Tank, water, and temperature
Petco’s care guide gives a preferred water-temperature range of 72–82°F and describes the mid-to-high 70s as an ideal average range. It recommends an appropriately sized aquarium with a filter, plants, and décor, and keeping water conditioner and a water test kit available. Equipment needs and prices vary; do not assume the fish’s price includes them.

Food and routine care
Petco describes a varied diet that can include flakes, pellets, freeze-dried foods, and frozen foods, and advises avoiding overfeeding. Regular water changes are part of the care guidance. These are ongoing needs rather than one-time additions to the purchase price.
Tankmates
Petco cautions that male bettas may fight with other males and sometimes with fish that resemble them; it also says bettas tend to be less compatible in group settings. A low purchase price is not a reason to crowd a fish into an unsuitable tank or add unsafe tankmates.
