First check what came loose: if the cat’s breakaway collar opened, the tracker may have come off with it as intended. If the collar stayed on but the tracker is missing, inspect the attachment, collar and model compatibility. Keep the collar’s quick-release function working—a tracker can be replaced, but a cat caught by a fixed collar can be seriously injured.
Work out what came off
- Collar and tracker are both missing: The collar may have opened at its safety clasp. Search for the collar and tracker together, and check the tracker app for its last known location if that feature is available. Tractive explains that its tracker comes off with the collar when the Rogz safety clasp releases; it also advises checking the app’s last known location. Tractive’s collar troubleshooting guide.
- Collar is still on, tracker is gone: The problem is more likely the mount, sleeve, clip, fit or a damaged part. Check that the attachment is the one intended for your exact tracker model.
A collar release is not the same as a tracker mount failure. The clasp is meant to release if the collar catches on something; preventing that release is not a safe way to keep the tracker.
Keep the collar safe and correctly fitted
Use a collar specifically designed for cats with a quick-release or snap-opening clasp. Cats Protection describes these as the safest collars for cats because they are more likely to open if caught. Do not replace one with a fixed, non-release collar or tape, tie or otherwise block its clasp to retain the tracker. Cats Protection’s collar guidance.
Fit the collar so two fingers can slide comfortably underneath. A collar that is too tight can injure or discomfort your cat; one that is too loose can snag or allow a paw or jaw to become trapped. Cats Protection recommends checking the fit again after a few minutes, once your cat has moved around. Tractive gives the same two-finger fit check for its collar. Check the attachment and model compatibility
Tractive CAT Mini
Tractive’s CAT Mini instructions describe two attachment options: a collar mount or a rubber sleeve. Use the option specified for your setup; do not put the sleeve over the tracker and mount together. If the tracker has detached while the collar remains on, check that the chosen attachment is properly engaged and inspect it for wear. Tractive CAT Mini collar and attachment guidance.
Tractive CAT 6 Mini
The CAT 6 Mini has an integrated collar, so its tracker does not attach to a regular collar. If this collar is lost or damaged, use a CAT 6 Mini-specific integrated replacement part. Tractive’s instructions say to tighten both screws securely and set the breakaway buckle for the cat’s weight. Tractive CAT 6 Mini instructions.

Other tracker models
Do not assume a mount or clip fits because it looks similar. Use the manufacturer’s instructions or accessory selector for the exact model, and confirm compatibility before ordering a replacement. No universal tracker mount compatibility is established here.
Inspect worn parts and replace damage
Check the collar fabric, buckle, clasp, mount and clip for cracks, stretched material, loose fasteners or other damage. Replace damaged parts rather than patching them in a way that stops the clasp releasing. Cats Protection advises replacing a damaged collar straight away, and Tractive recommends regular checks of its breakaway collar. Warranty and care-plan coverage for damaged accessories depends on current terms, so check those terms directly before relying on coverage. When replacing a part, match it to the tracker model: CAT Mini uses a separate attachment, while CAT 6 Mini uses an integrated collar. A replacement mount or collar for one model should not be treated as interchangeable with another.
If an adjustable clasp opens during ordinary activity
For the adjustable clasp on the specified Tractive Rogz collars, select the setting for your cat’s weight using the instructions for that collar version. If it releases during normal activity, Tractive advises observing the cat for a day or two and moving the setting up if it releases too easily. Adjust one setting at a time, and make sure the clasp can still release when caught. These instructions are for the specified Rogz collars, not a universal adjustment method for every cat collar.
