The story behind this headline is an emotionally framed iHeartDogs retelling, not a directly documented adoption report. It credits High Plains Humane Society (HPHS) with sharing a puppy’s photo, says the post drew adoption requests, and reports that a woman was chosen—but the dog, the shelter, the original post, and the adoption record are not identified in the located accounts.
What the story says happened
In its December 21, 2025 version, iHeartDogs says HPHS volunteers visited an associate shelter and photographed a dog there. The shelter is not named. The article describes the dog as looking through her kennel and appearing devastated; those are the writer’s interpretations of the image, not verified statements about the dog’s emotional or medical condition.
The account says HPHS shared the photo on social media as a “last resort,” adoption requests followed, and a woman was selected to be the dog’s companion. It does not name the dog or adopter, give an adoption date, link the original HPHS post, or provide an adoption record or direct statement from the shelter or adopter.
What “cried all night” does—and does not—establish
“Cried all night” appears in the headline, but the located article text does not describe overnight observation or explain how the claim was established. It should be understood as headline wording, not as independently verified evidence that the dog cried through the night.

Likewise, a photograph cannot establish that a dog was “devastated,” “sad,” or “defeated.” Those words convey how the image was presented; they are not a behavioral assessment or veterinary diagnosis.
Why repeated versions are not separate confirmation
iHeartDogs published versions of this anecdote on April 6, 2022, August 20, 2025, and December 21, 2025. The December 2025 version, the August 2025 version, and the April 2022 version share substantially the same account. They are versions of one story, not three independent sources confirming the events.
