Cat Years Hydration Booster is a lickable treat, not a complete diet or a treatment for dehydration or urinary disease. In a one-week review, Cats.com reviewer Annie Butler reported that three household cats and two foster kittens accepted both flavors. A separate, small controlled study found hydration-marker changes in healthy cats given treats with a similar ingredient profile, but it does not prove that this product prevents or treats disease.
What is Cat Years Hydration Booster?
It is a daily lickable cat treat available in chicken and tuna. Cat Years describes it as a treat rather than complete-and-balanced primary nutrition. The manufacturer lists an 18 g (0.64 oz) serving and suggests at least one treat per day, up to two for healthy adult cats; follow veterinary advice for your cat’s individual needs. Cat Years’ product page lists 11 kcal per 18 g treat, or 598 kcal ME/kg, calculated.
Flavors and ingredients
Both ingredient lists start with tuna broth and include glycine, natural tapioca starch, purified mineral salt, dried yeast, chicken liver, guar gum, taurine, L-alanine and betaine. The tuna version adds wild-caught tuna; the chicken version adds chicken breast. The manufacturer describes amino acids, electrolytes and osmolytes as its hydration blend. Compare the full ingredient list with your cat’s known sensitivities, particularly because both formulas list chicken liver even though one flavor is labeled tuna.

These are the manufacturer’s published figures, accessed in 2026. Moisture is listed as a maximum, not a guarantee that every serving contains exactly 85% water.

What did the five-cat review find?
In its review published October 2, 2026, Cats.com says Butler tried both flavors over one week with three household cats and two foster kittens. She reported that all five ate both flavors. She also tried serving the treat in a bowl, on a spoon and as a dry-food topper. These are the reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee that another cat will accept it.
Cats.com gave the product 49/60 (A−) across six categories. That is the review’s rating, not a scientific measure of effectiveness. The review also reported 4.8 stars from 105 Amazon reviews and 4.9 stars from more than 800 reviews on the official site at publication; ratings and counts may change.

Does the evidence show that it improves hydration?
A 2026 peer-reviewed study by Kosmal and colleagues in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery tested high-moisture lickable treats containing glycine, alanine, taurine, betaine and sodium in healthy cats fed dry diets. The sample was 12 neutered male domestic shorthair colony cats aged 5–6 years. The authors reported increased total water intake and lower urine specific gravity, as well as changes in other hydration measures. Their conclusion was: “Overall, both treats increased TWI and additional hydration benefits were reflected in decreased USG, UP and CR. No adverse effects were observed with either treatment.” The study supports a finding in its tested cats and controlled conditions; it does not establish that Cat Years Hydration Booster prevents or treats dehydration, kidney disease or urinary disease in every cat.
The manufacturer cites this study when saying one treat per day increased total water intake and lowered urine specific gravity. Those are study findings about the tested treats and study population, not proof of improved health outcomes for an individual cat. The study article discloses that coauthor Lawrence E. Armstrong served as a paid consultant and advisory-board member for Peturio Holdings, doing business as Cat Years.

Is it worth trying for a picky cat?
The five-cat review offers a modest reason to consider it if your cat likes lickable treats: the reviewer reported acceptance across both flavors and several serving methods. But one small reviewer test cannot predict an individual cat’s preference. If you try it, start with the flavor whose protein source best fits your cat’s diet and sensitivities, and offer a small amount in a familiar way.
For a comparison with another treat, check the protein sources and other ingredients, moisture and calories per serving, price per treat, feeding directions, and how closely any hydration evidence applies to your cat. The cited sources do not establish a controlled head-to-head comparison with named competing treats. If your cat has a medical condition, food allergy, prescription diet or signs of dehydration, ask your veterinarian before changing its treats or relying on one for hydration.

Buying and safety checks
Cats.com reported Amazon availability and a $9.99 price for each flavor when its review was published on October 2, 2026. At access, the manufacturer’s page displayed a 28-treat offer with subscription and one-time purchase terms. These listings and prices can change, so check the manufacturer’s current product page and any retailer listing for availability, serving directions and current cost before purchasing.
The Cats.com review said it found no listing in the FDA Food Recall Database since the product’s market launch. That historical report is not a current, independently verified recall check, so it should not be treated as confirmation of present regulatory or recall status.
