Voice of OC reported that 164 cats and 89 dogs were waiting for adoption at OC Animal Care in Tustin on October 1, 2026. That is a dated snapshot, not a live count. The report, published October 2, featured cats ranging from kittens to adults; check the shelter’s current listings before making plans.
How many cats were available?
Voice of OC’s October 2, 2026 report described more than 150 cats at OC Animal Care, with its listing snippet giving the precise October 1 count as 164 cats and 89 dogs waiting to be adopted. The figures show the shelter’s inventory on that date only; they do not establish how many animals are available now. Read the Voice of OC report.

How to arrange an adoption visit
- Check the current listings. Visit OC Animal Care’s pet adoptions page to see which animals are currently listed.
- Call about a particular cat. The report gives the number (714) 935-6848 and advises callers to provide the animal’s pet ID.
- Confirm visit details before setting out. The report listed daily adoption visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and said visitors could walk through kennel areas to view available animals. Hours and availability can change, so verify directly with the shelter.
If you are taking a cat home, plan for a secure cat carrier for transport. The report does not say that OC Animal Care requires a particular carrier.
What the report does not establish
- Whether any featured cat remains available now.
- Current adoption fees, screening criteria, or all adoption requirements.
- Whether a shared kennel means two cats must be adopted together.
For those details, rely on the shelter’s current listings and direct confirmation rather than the October 2026 snapshot.
