A Horgi is a Siberian Husky–Corgi mix. You may also see this cross called a Corgsky, Siborgi, or Husgi. It is not a standardized breed, so there is no official Horgi size, appearance, temperament, or health profile.
That uncertainty matters. One Horgi may be compact and Corgi-like, while another may be taller, longer-legged, and more Husky-like. Most will need an active home, consistent training, regular grooming, and careful weight management. Anyone buying a puppy should evaluate the health and temperament of both parents rather than relying on the Horgi label.
What is a Horgi?
A Horgi is a cross between a Siberian Husky and either a Pembroke Welsh Corgi or a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Pembrokes and Cardigans are separate breeds, so the Corgi parent can make a noticeable difference in a Horgi’s size, body shape, coat, and temperament.
The cross is not recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), and it has no breed standard. In practical terms, this means descriptions such as “the ideal Horgi weighs…” or “all Horgis have blue eyes” are marketing claims, not established breed facts.

Horgi appearance and size
Horgis often have erect ears, a wedge-shaped or Husky-like face, and a dense coat. They may inherit the Corgi parent’s short legs and long-backed outline, the Husky parent’s longer limbs and athletic build, or a combination that is difficult to predict in puppyhood.
There is no authoritative adult size range. The parent breeds differ substantially:

A mature Horgi can therefore be considerably larger or more heavily built than people expect from the name. A puppy’s short legs or oversized ears also cannot reliably predict its adult proportions.
Coat and colors
Both parent breeds have dense double coats, so a Horgi will usually have a thick, weather-resistant coat with a soft undercoat. Coat length, texture, markings, and color vary. Possible colors include red, sable, fawn, black and tan, gray, black, white, and combinations of these, depending on the parents’ genetics.

Blue eyes or two different-colored eyes can occur when a dog inherits Siberian Husky ancestry. They do not prove that a dog is a Horgi, however. Eye color alone cannot establish breed ancestry.
Horgi temperament
A Horgi’s behavior cannot be predicted simply by splitting the description of the parent breeds in half. Some inherit the Corgi’s alertness, trainability, and herding instincts. Others show more of the Husky’s sociability, independence, endurance, and desire to run. Many display a mixture of both.
Possible tendencies include:
- Herding or heel-nipping behavior
- Vocalization, including barking, whining, or Husky-like “talking”
- Chasing small animals
- Digging and escape attempts
- High activity levels
- Independence and selective listening
- Strong interest in people or other dogs
These are possibilities, not guarantees. A Horgi may be friendly and easygoing, or it may be intense, noisy, and difficult to contain. Genetics, early socialization, training, health, and the individual dog all influence the result.
Are Horgis good with children and other pets?
Some Horgis live successfully with children, cats, and other dogs, but the cross should not be marketed as automatically family-friendly. Herding behavior can lead to chasing or nipping, while Husky ancestry may contribute prey drive or exuberant play.

Choose a dog with a known temperament, supervise interactions, and teach children not to climb on, disturb, or take food from the dog. Introduce cats and other pets gradually, using barriers and leashes when appropriate. Never leave a young child or small animal unsupervised with a dog.
Exercise and mental stimulation
Plan for an active, mentally demanding companion rather than a low-maintenance lap dog. Pembroke Welsh Corgis need regular exercise and mental work; Siberian Huskies were developed for endurance and can have a powerful desire to run.
A suitable daily routine might include:
- Two or more walks, adjusted for age, weather, and fitness
- Short reward-based training sessions
- Interactive play such as fetch or tug
- Scent games, food puzzles, or scatter feeding
- Structured opportunities to explore and sniff
A secure yard can help, but it does not replace walks or training. Horgis with strong Husky traits may dig under fences, climb, squeeze through gaps, or dash through an open door. Inspect fencing regularly and use a leash, long line, harness, or secure enclosed area unless the dog has genuinely reliable recall. Off-leash reliability should never be assumed.
Can a Horgi live in an apartment?
Possibly, but “apartment-friendly” is not an inherent Horgi characteristic. An individual dog may adapt to an apartment if its exercise, enrichment, training, and noise needs are met. A bored Horgi can become destructive or disturb neighbors through barking and vocalizing.
Before choosing one, consider whether you can provide daily outdoor activity, tolerate shedding and possible noise, and prevent escape through doors, balconies, elevators, and shared hallways.
Grooming and shedding
Expect substantial shedding. Both parent breeds have thick double coats, and shedding may increase dramatically during seasonal coat-blowing periods. A Horgi is not a good choice for someone seeking a low-shedding or hypoallergenic dog.
Grooming usually includes:
- Brush regularly with tools suited to the dog’s coat density.
- Brush more frequently when the undercoat is shedding heavily.
- Trim nails before they become overgrown.
- Check and clean the ears as advised by your veterinarian.
- Brush the teeth regularly and arrange professional dental care when needed.
- Bathe when dirty, using a dog-safe shampoo.
Do not shave a Horgi for summer. Its double coat helps insulate and protect the skin. Brushing, shade, water, and sensible exercise during hot weather are safer ways to manage the coat and heat.
Horgi health concerns
There is not enough reliable population-level research to say which diseases are most common in Horgis or to assign them a typical lifespan. A mixed-breed dog can still inherit health problems from either parent. The most useful approach is to understand the risks in both lines and obtain veterinary care throughout the dog’s life.

Orthopedic and spinal problems
If a Horgi inherits the Corgi’s short-legged, long-backed structure, excess weight and jumping can place additional mechanical stress on the spine. Intervertebral disc disease is a concern in short-legged breeds. Warning signs include back or neck pain, reluctance to move, lameness, incoordination, hind-leg weakness, or an inability to walk.
Sudden weakness, paralysis, severe pain, or loss of bladder or bowel control is an emergency. Keep the dog as still as possible and contact a veterinarian immediately.
Corgi lines may also have hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eye disease, cardiac disease, von Willebrand disease, and degenerative myelopathy. Degenerative myelopathy generally causes slowly progressive, usually painless weakness and incoordination in the hind limbs.
Eye disease and Husky-associated conditions
Siberian Huskies can inherit eye conditions including hereditary cataracts, corneal dystrophy, and progressive retinal atrophy. The Siberian Husky Club of America emphasizes eye examinations by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist because a normal result at one age does not guarantee that a dog will remain clear later.

These tests are relevant when assessing a planned litter, but a DNA panel is not a general health certificate. Genetic testing does not replace physical examinations, hip imaging, eye examinations, or review of the family history.
How to find a responsible Horgi breeder
For a planned litter, ask for documentation on both parents. Do not accept “health tested” as a complete answer without seeing which tests were performed and the actual results.
- Verify hips. Ask for hip results through OFA, PennHIP, OVC, or another recognized registry.
- Request current eye records. The examination should be performed by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, not only a routine puppy check.
- Ask about Husky genetic tests. Request SPS1 and SHPN1 results for the Siberian Husky parent.
- Ask about the Corgi parent’s screening. Discuss hips, eyes, elbows, cardiac disease, von Willebrand disease, degenerative myelopathy, and other conditions relevant to that family line.
- Search registered names. Check the parents in the OFA database rather than relying only on screenshots or advertising. A CHIC number shows that required tests were performed and recorded; it does not mean every result was normal.
- Evaluate temperament. Meet the parents when possible and ask about fear, aggression, sociability, handling, prey drive, and escape behavior.
- Review the paperwork. The breeder should provide veterinary, vaccination, and deworming records, a written contract, and a plan to take the dog back if you can no longer keep it.
Be cautious if a seller guarantees a particular adult size, promises a hypoallergenic coat, refuses to show health records, or uses blue eyes as proof of quality or ancestry.

Feeding and weight management
There is no reliable universal Horgi feeding chart. Portions should be based on the dog’s age, food calorie density, activity level, growth rate, and body condition. Your veterinarian can help select an appropriate diet and adjust portions.
Keep a Horgi lean, particularly if it has short legs or a long back. Excess weight increases strain on the musculoskeletal system and can worsen the consequences of spinal disease. Measure meals, count treats, and check the dog’s body condition regularly instead of feeding by appearance or appetite alone.
Training a Horgi
Start reward-based training early. Both parent breeds are intelligent, but intelligence does not necessarily mean automatic obedience. A Horgi may understand a cue and still decide that chasing, sniffing, or escaping is more rewarding.
Use short, engaging sessions and valuable rewards. Teach name recognition, recall, loose-leash walking, door manners, handling, drop-it, and a settle cue. Early socialization should expose the puppy gradually and positively to people, surfaces, sounds, transport, grooming, and calm, vaccinated dogs.

Secure management remains important even after training: a good recall is useful, but it should not be treated as a guarantee against a Husky-like urge to run.

FAQ
Is a Horgi a recognized dog breed?
No. Horgi is a common name for a Siberian Husky–Corgi cross. It is not an AKC-recognized breed and has no official breed standard.
How big will a Horgi get?
There is no dependable Horgi size range. Adult size depends on the Siberian Husky parent, whether the Corgi parent is a Pembroke or Cardigan, sex, genetics, and nutrition. The parents’ size and previous offspring provide a better estimate than the Horgi name.
Do Horgis have blue eyes?
Some may inherit blue eyes or heterochromia from the Siberian Husky parent, but these traits are not required. Blue eyes do not prove that a dog is a Horgi.

Do Horgis shed a lot?
Usually, yes. Both parent breeds have dense double coats, so regular shedding and heavier seasonal shedding should be expected.
Are Horgis hypoallergenic?
No. Horgis shed and can produce the dander and saliva proteins that trigger allergies. No dog is truly hypoallergenic.
Are Horgis easy to train?
They can learn quickly, but they may also be independent, distractible, vocal, or motivated to run. Reward-based training, consistency, early socialization, and secure management are important.

Choose the individual dog carefully, meet the parents when possible, verify health records, and plan for training and secure exercise from the beginning. A Horgi can be a rewarding companion for an active, prepared household, but its unusual appearance should not distract from the practical demands of Husky and Corgi ancestry.
