The AirTag 4-Pack Was 34% Off—but Check the Generation Before You Buy

The reported 34%-off AirTag four-pack deal dates to January 2026 and may be older stock. Here’s what AirTag can—and cannot—do for a pet.

A $64.98 AirTag four-pack was reported on sale for 34% below Apple’s $99 U.S. list price on January 15, 2026. That deal report predates Apple’s second-generation AirTag, announced January 26, so a current listing at roughly $65 may be discounted first-generation stock or an expired promotion—not necessarily the latest model. Check the seller, condition, generation, and checkout price before buying. More importantly, AirTag is an inexpensive backup locator for an iPhone household, not a GPS pet tracker: it cannot promise a live location or prevent a pet from getting lost.

Is the AirTag four-pack still 34% off?

The documented deal was $64.98 for four, down from Apple’s $99 U.S. list price—a $34.02 reduction, or about 34%. MacRumors reported that Amazon price on January 15, 2026; the report does not establish that the offer is still available. See the dated deal report.

Apple announced a second-generation AirTag on January 26, 2026, at the same U.S. list prices: $29 for one or $99 for four. By July 20, deal coverage reported the second-generation four-pack at $89, about 10% below list. Those dated prices do not verify what any retailer charges today. Apple’s launch announcement

Before checkout, open the retailer’s actual listing and confirm the generation, seller, new or refurbished condition, return policy, shipping, tax, and any membership or quantity requirements. A generic “AirTag 4-pack” title does not establish which generation is in the box. Compare its final price with Apple’s four-pack listing; the price may change by retailer and date.

Which AirTag generation are you buying?

The January $64.98 deal report is dated before the second-generation launch. Do not treat that price—or an unspecified retailer listing—as proof that the pack contains the newer model.

How an AirTag can help find a pet

AirTag is designed to find objects, not people or pets, Apple says. It uses Bluetooth rather than an onboard cellular connection: when the tag is near its owner, Find My can help locate it and play a sound; compatible devices can also provide Precision Finding. When it is away, nearby Apple devices can detect its Bluetooth signal and anonymously relay an approximate location through the Find My network. Apple explains the new AirTag and Find My network.

That makes the map a record of where the tag was detected, not a guaranteed live position for the animal. Updates depend on nearby participating devices. A pet in a rural area, woods, basement, or other place with few nearby Apple devices may not generate frequent updates—or any new location. Walls, furniture, metal, a depleted battery, or a detached collar can also frustrate a search. If the collar comes off, Find My shows the AirTag, not necessarily the pet.

Apple AirTag Tracking Device, 4-Pack (Renewed)
  • Keep track of and find your items alongside friends and devices in the Find My app
  • Simple one-tap setup instantly connects AirTag with your iPhone or iPad
  • Play a sound on the built-in speaker to help find your things, or just ask Siri for help
  • Precision Finding with Ultra Wideband technology leads you right to your nearby AirTag (on select iPhone models)
  • Find items further away with the help of hundreds of millions of Apple devices in the Find My network

What it can do

  • Help locate a nearby tag with sound and, where supported, Precision Finding.
  • Show an approximate location when another Apple device detects the tag and relays its location through Find My.
  • Let someone who finds the tag tap it with an NFC-capable phone to see owner-provided contact information when Lost Mode is enabled.

What it cannot promise

  • Cellular GPS tracking, continuous updates, or a location ping on a set schedule.
  • Geofence or escape alerts at a defined distance.
  • Reliable location where participating Apple devices are scarce.
  • Health, activity, temperature, or heart-rate monitoring.
  • That the tag stays attached or that its sound can be heard outdoors or through dense vegetation.

Is an AirTag appropriate for a pet collar?

The first-generation AirTag weighs 11 g before adding a holder or collar attachment. That may be unsuitable for some small animals, and weight alone does not establish whether a particular setup is comfortable. Choose a pet-specific holder that fits the animal and collar; it should be secure, rounded, and resistant to chewing, snagging, and accidental release. Avoid loose attachments that could catch on branches, crates, fences, or harness hardware.

Apple lists first-generation AirTag as IP67 water and dust resistant: under laboratory conditions, it can withstand immersion in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. That is not a promise of permanent waterproofing; resistance can decline with wear. Apple’s specifications

Set up the AirTag and its contact information

  1. Check the model’s minimum OS requirement and update the iPhone accordingly: the second-generation model requires iOS 26 or later; Apple’s first-generation specifications list iOS 14.5 or later.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth, Location Services, and Find My. Activate the AirTag by removing its battery tab if present, then hold it near the iPhone and follow the pairing prompt.
  3. Choose a clear name, such as “Milo’s collar,” and register the tag to the owner’s Apple Account.
  4. In Find My, enable Lost Mode and enter current contact details. Include a household name, multiple phone numbers, and a brief message such as “Please call—pet is lost.”
  5. Fit the tag into the chosen pet-specific holder, attach it securely, and test Find My, Play Sound, and the NFC contact display.
  6. Tell household members and regular caregivers that the pet wears the tag. Confirm who can see or manage it through the current Find My settings rather than assuming every family member has owner-level access.

An NFC tap can help a finder reach the owner even if they do not use an iPhone, but they must notice the tag and know to tap it. Keep a readable visible ID tag as a simpler backup.

What to do if the pet goes missing

  1. Open Find My → Items and select the pet’s AirTag. Check the location and its timestamp; the displayed point may be stale.
  2. If the tag is nearby, try Play Sound and Precision Finding if the model and device support it.
  3. If the last detected location is elsewhere, approach safely with a leash or carrier, treats, a flashlight, and a recent photo. Do not assume the pet is still at the displayed point.
  4. Mark the AirTag as lost and verify that its contact details are current.
  5. Contact nearby shelters, animal control, veterinarians, and neighbors, and post through local lost-pet networks. Continue those steps even if Find My has not updated.

Privacy alerts can affect caregivers

AirTag uses rotating Bluetooth identifiers and encrypted Find My communications; Apple and Google also support cross-platform unwanted-tracker alerts. A person may receive an alert if an unknown tracker appears to be traveling with them over time. Apple and Google announced cross-platform alerts; Apple also provides guidance on unwanted-tracking alerts.

A dog walker, groomer, boarding worker, veterinarian, family member, or other caregiver might see an alert if the AirTag travels with them separately from its owner. An alert is not proof of malicious tracking; it is a safety feature. Tell caregivers about the tag in advance, and make sure household members know it is on the pet.

AirTag, GPS pet trackers, and other Bluetooth tags

Option Useful for Trade-offs
AirTag Low-cost backup finding for an iPhone household; locating a tag through Find My, especially in places with nearby Apple devices; sharing a four-pack across a pet and belongings. Not GPS or cellular tracking; no guaranteed live updates or geofence alerts; pet holder is separate; performance depends on nearby devices and the tag remaining attached.
Cellular GPS pet tracker Owners who need live or more frequent location, geofencing, or escape alerts, subject to the service and local coverage. Usually costs more, commonly requires a recurring cellular subscription, and is generally larger and needs charging more often. Compare the exact device’s weight, battery, coverage, and plan terms.
Another Bluetooth tracker network People considering a non-Apple ecosystem or companion app. Network reach, app features, compatibility, and any subscription requirements vary by product. Compare the specific model rather than assuming all Bluetooth trackers work alike.

For a pet that often escapes into rural or wooded areas, or for an owner who needs an escape notification, a dedicated cellular GPS tracker is the more relevant category to investigate. Confirm coverage where the pet lives and travels, plus device weight, battery life, plan price, and cancellation terms. The AirTag price references above do not establish current prices for GPS services.

Who should buy the four-pack?

  • It may fit: an iPhone household seeking inexpensive backup location help for a pet and several belongings, especially if the pet spends time in populated areas and already wears visible ID and has a microchip.
  • Look elsewhere: an Android-only owner without access to an Apple device for setup, someone who needs live tracking or geofencing, or an owner whose pet regularly roams where nearby Apple devices are scarce.
  • Check carefully: buyers whose pet is small, chews accessories, or may snag a collar attachment, and anyone looking at a listing that does not clearly state generation, condition, seller, and return terms.
