Pumpkin picking is underway at Critz Farms in Cazenovia, New York. The farm lists pick-your-own pumpkins daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October 31, 2026, even after spring weather damaged part of its apple crop and rain delayed pumpkin planting. Co-owner Matthew Critz told NewsChannel 9 that the farm still grew nearly 40,000 pumpkins.

What happened to the pumpkin and apple crops?
In a NewsChannel 9 report republished by AOL on October 3, 2026, Critz Farms co-owner Matthew Critz said rainy weather around Memorial Day weekend delayed pumpkin planting. He explained that too much rain can lead to fungal problems and poor stems, while too little can leave pumpkins small and yields weak. The report gives no rainfall totals or exact planting dates.
Despite the delay, Critz said the farm grew nearly 40,000 pumpkins in 2026, from pie pumpkins to large pumpkins. That is his reported figure, not an independently audited count.

The apple crop had a separate setback. Critz told NewsChannel 9 that an April 19–20 freeze wiped out 25% of the farm’s apples, including the Empire crop. He described the season as mixed: Honeycrisp, Liberty, and Macintosh performed well, while the farm got no Empires. The account is reported by NewsChannel 9 and republished by AOL.
