Plain cooked tilapia contains 0 g of total carbohydrates per 3 oz (84 g) edible portion, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That figure is for fish cooked without added ingredients; breading, batter, sauces, and marinades can add carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates in plain tilapia
The FDA lists plain tilapia at 0 g total carbohydrate per 3 oz (84 g) cooked edible portion. Its cooked-seafood table covers fish prepared with moist or dry heat and no added ingredients: FDA Nutrition Information for Cooked Seafood (Purchased Raw).
USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy entries, shown in secondary food-data renderings, provide additional reference points. One lists raw tilapia at 0 g carbohydrate per 100 g; another lists cooked tilapia prepared with dry heat at 0 g total carbohydrate per 87 g fillet. These are different portion sizes and preparation states, so they are useful cross-checks rather than interchangeable servings. See the entries for raw tilapia (FDC 175176) and cooked tilapia (FDC 175177).
When a tilapia dish may contain carbohydrates
The 0 g figure applies to plain fish, not every tilapia meal or packaged product. Added ingredients can change the carbohydrate total:

- Contains: Catfish (Fish). May Contain Bones
- Individually vacuum packed
- Breading or batter: coatings can add carbohydrates.
- Sauces or marinades: ingredients in a prepared dish may contribute carbohydrates.
- Different serving sizes: the FDA figure is for 3 oz (84 g) cooked edible fish; totals for a larger or smaller serving should be checked against its actual ingredients and nutrition information.
For a specific prepared item, use its nutrition label. For a homemade recipe, count the carbohydrates in the coating, sauce, marinade, or other additions rather than treating the plain-fish figure as the total for the plate.

Check three details before comparing numbers: whether the fish is raw or cooked, the serving weight, and whether it is plain or prepared with added ingredients. A raw 100 g entry, a cooked 87 g fillet entry, and the FDA’s cooked 3 oz (84 g) portion describe different bases even though each cited plain-fish reference lists 0 g carbohydrate.
