The Nordlandshest/Lyngshest is a horse breed from Norway, also known as the Nordland/Lyngen horse, Nordland horse or Lyngen horse. It is the smallest of Norway’s three national horse breeds. The breed originated around the Lyngen fjord, in the area now called Lyngen Municipality. Breeders there gave it the name Nordlandshest in 1968. That name was disputed by breeders in Lyngen and nearby areas, and a compromise later established Nordlandshest and Lyngshest together as the official breed name. Its listed height is 1.3. The breed belongs to the horse family and has Norway as its origin. The shared name reflects the compromise between the two naming preferences.
