The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a dog from Wales and a member of the spaniel family. It is a working breed developed for hunting, with a coat that appears only in white with red markings, usually in a piebald pattern. The breed resembles the English Springer Spaniel and has at times also been called the Welsh Spaniel or Welsh Cocker Spaniel. Its modern name followed recognition by The Kennel Club in 1902. Welsh Springer Spaniels are described as loyal and affectionate, and may become closely attached to family members, while remaining wary of strangers. The listed height is 46. Hip dysplasia and some eye conditions affect the breed more than average, although the health conditions noted are otherwise those common among many dog breeds. It is less common than the English Springer Spaniel, with which it can be confused.
