ChatGPT did not independently make or administer a cancer vaccine, and one dog’s reported tumor shrinkage does not prove the treatment works. In Rosie’s case, AI tools helped her owner plan genomic analysis; university researchers and laboratories carried out the sequencing and developed a one-off experimental mRNA vaccine. A March 2026 report said her tumors had shrunk by about 50% to 75% within weeks, but that was an observation in a single dog receiving other care as well.
What happened to Rosie?
Australian AI consultant Paul Conyngham sought options after his dog Rosie was diagnosed with mast-cell cancer. With ChatGPT’s help, he planned an investigation and worked through genomic-analysis steps. The UNSW Ramaciotti Centre for Genomics sequenced DNA from healthy tissue and the tumor. UNSW Sydney reported in 2025 that the work generated about 320 gigabytes of data and cost about A$3,000.
The analysis focused attention on an abnormal form of the c-KIT protein. UNSW and University of Queensland researchers later developed a customised mRNA vaccine for Rosie. The UNSW Ramaciotti Centre reported that the first injection was given in December 2025, with boosters planned for early 2026. In March 2026, The Jerusalem Post reported that Rosie’s tumors had shrunk by approximately 50% to 75% within weeks of the experimental treatment.
Those details describe a personalised effort involving an owner, AI tools, genomic analysis and university-led laboratory work—not an off-the-shelf vaccine created by ChatGPT. The reported sequencing cost is not a quoted price for the complete treatment.

What did ChatGPT and AlphaFold do?
ChatGPT helped Conyngham plan the investigation and navigate steps in analysing genomic data. AlphaFold, a protein-structure prediction tool, was used to model Rosie’s c-KIT protein. Neither tool replaced the specialists and laboratory work needed to analyse the data and develop the experimental therapy.
UNSW cautioned that AlphaFold’s outputs need validation. For one rendering in the work, its reported confidence score was 54.55; that score is a reason not to treat the model as definitive evidence about the protein’s structure. Structural biologist Dr Kate Michie told UNSW in 2025, “I think people put a little bit too much trust in it at the moment,” adding, “We’re still working out the things that it doesn’t do.”

Conyngham described the expense in UNSW’s 2025 account: “The price was $3000, which is probably beyond what most people would spend on this problem, but I thought screw it. It’s worth a shot.” He also said, “It’s insane what you can do.” Those remarks describe his decision and reaction; they do not establish a typical cost or a treatment outcome owners can expect.
Does the reported shrinkage prove the vaccine works?
No. A report of tumor shrinkage in one dog cannot establish that the vaccine caused the change, how long any response lasted, or whether it would help other dogs. Rosie received other care alongside the bespoke intervention, and there was no controlled comparison in this single case. The 50%–75% figure is a reported observation from March 2026, not a success rate or a result from a clinical trial.

Canine cancer research includes vaccine studies and other immunotherapies, but their results cannot be transferred to Rosie’s treatment. For example, a 2024 study design indexed by PubMed describes a randomised, placebo-controlled trial of a preventative cancer vaccine in dogs. Separately, an American Association for Cancer Research report on a 2024 melanoma trial described tumour-localised interleukin-2 and interleukin-12 combined with radiation. These were different approaches, not tests of Rosie’s personalised mRNA vaccine.

Can owners buy Rosie’s vaccine or copy the approach?
No retail or approved product is identified for Rosie’s vaccine. It was developed as a one-off experimental therapy tailored to her case, not presented as a treatment available to dog owners generally. The available account also does not establish that the approach is accessible, safe or effective for other dogs.

Do not try to reproduce vaccine design or dosing from online instructions. Genomic interpretation, experimental vaccine development and treatment decisions require qualified professionals and appropriate laboratory and veterinary oversight.

- Is the study or treatment for the same tumor type and stage?
- Is the evidence a case report, an early trial or a controlled study?
- What is the treatment goal, and what outcomes are actually measured?
- What monitoring, possible side effects, costs and access requirements are involved?
- Who will oversee care, and how will the plan fit alongside other treatment?
These questions help distinguish an intriguing individual case from evidence that can guide a decision for another dog.
