IHeartDogs reported that a dog ran toward three bears in a Maple Grove driveway, then ran back toward the house as one bear chased it. The account says the dog, bears and people were unharmed. The report does not establish that the bear was angry or that the owners went outside to pursue the dog.
What happened in the driveway?
In an August 8, 2025 account, IHeartDogs writer Dee Michaels described a home security-camera encounter shortly before 8 p.m. Three black bears were in a family’s driveway when the dog bolted toward them barking. The family called for the dog to come back; one bear chased it as it ran toward the house. IHeartDogs said the dog, bears and people were unharmed. IHeartDogs’ 2025 report
A second IHeartDogs article, dated October 2, 2026, retells a similar Maple Grove story: a dog runs toward three bears and one chases it back to its owners. It is a second publication of the account, not independent confirmation. IHeartDogs’ 2026 report
What the report does—and does not—verify
The location is identified only as “Maple Grove”; the account does not say which one. The available articles do not identify the family, link clearly to an original video upload, or provide confirmation from local authorities. The footage itself was not independently verified in the material available for this account.

Although the headline calls the bear “angry” and says the owners “bravely pursue” the dog, the account does not establish either interpretation. It describes the dog running toward the bears and the family calling it back, not the owners physically chasing after it. The bear’s motivation cannot be determined from the report.
What to do if your dog encounters a bear
Keep your dog under physical control and follow the rules for the specific place you are visiting. National Park Service guidance warns that barking can add stress during an encounter and that an off-leash dog can lead a bear back toward people. Give bears space rather than allowing a dog to approach them. NPS: “I Didn’t Know That! Getting Comfortable in Bear Country”

Secure food and garbage so bears cannot access them. Redwood National and State Parks recommends bearproof trash cans and notes that bears can become accustomed to human foods. That is general prevention advice, not evidence that food or trash attracted the bears in this driveway account. NPS Redwood: “Bears and Food”
