Farmina’s recipes span several product lines and both wet and dry foods, so the useful question is not whether the brand is universally “good,” but whether a particular recipe suits your cat, budget and veterinarian’s guidance.
How Cats.com scored Farmina
Cats.com’s “Unbiased Farmina Cat Food Review,” updated January 12, 2026, assigns Farmina 7.7/10 overall, or 46 out of 60, and a grade of B+. These are the publisher’s editorial ratings—not a regulatory score, clinical study or universal nutrition standard.
| Category | Cats.com rating |
|---|---|
| Species-Appropriateness | 7/10 |
| Ingredient Quality | 8/10 |
| Product Variety | 7/10 |
| Price | 5/10 |
| Customer Experience | 9/10 |
| Recall History | 10/10 |
The category scores suggest why the overall grade should be read as a starting point rather than a feeding recommendation: the review rates price less favorably than customer experience, and its nutrition discussion concerns specific dry recipes rather than every product Farmina sells. For the full rubric and recipe-level analysis, see Cats.com’s review.
Farmina’s product lines are not interchangeable
Cats.com describes Farmina as an Italy-based company owned by Russo Magimi, with pet-food development beginning in the 1990s. Its review describes manufacturing facilities in Italy, Serbia and Brazil, and says wet food is manufactured in Serbia. Manufacturing arrangements can change; check the origin stated on the particular package if it matters to your decision.

- Helpful in the prevention of cardiovascular problems

- Quinoa promotes digestion, the absorption of nutrients, and intestinal health
The review identifies several feline ranges with different purposes and positioning. The name of a family alone does not establish the full ingredient list, nutrient profile or suitability of an individual product.
| Family | How Cats.com describes it | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Vet Life Feline | Prescription diets aimed at health needs | Whether the specific diet is appropriate for your cat, with veterinary guidance |
| N&D Quinoa Functional Feline | A functional range | The exact recipe, intended use and label details |
| N&D Prime | A range described in the review in terms of animal-protein proportions | Ingredients and nutrient information for the individual recipe |
| N&D Ocean | Recipes described as using ocean-sourced primary proteins | The actual protein sources in the selected recipe |
| N&D Pumpkin | A range described in the review in terms of animal-protein proportions | The actual ingredients and nutrient statement for the selected recipe |
| N&D Ancestral Grain | A range that includes grains such as spelt and oats | The exact recipe and whether it meets your cat’s needs |
Wet and dry foods also differ in format and moisture. A review of dry recipes cannot establish the nutrient profile or energy density of a wet food, and no single recipe analysis should be applied across the range.

What the Boar & Apple example does—and does not—tell you
Farmina’s official US page describes N&D Prime Feline Boar & Apple Adult as a maintenance food formulated to meet AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles. It lists 3.3 lb and 11 lb packages. Farmina calls the recipe “98% Animal Protein”; that is the manufacturer’s wording, not a claim that 98% of the food is meat or an independent quality certification. Check the official product page and the package you are buying for current details.
That adult maintenance designation should not be generalized to Farmina’s other recipes or life stages. For the food in your cart, compare the exact life-stage statement, complete ingredient list, guaranteed analysis and calorie information on its current label. Recipe-specific mineral figures, when relevant to your cat, should likewise be checked for that formula rather than inferred from a brand headline.

How to compare a Farmina recipe for your cat
- Match life stage and purpose. Confirm the label’s life-stage statement. The Boar & Apple example is for adult maintenance; it does not establish suitability for kittens or other needs.
- Compare the format. Decide whether you are considering wet or dry food, and compare like with like. Do not carry moisture or calorie assumptions from one format to another.
- Read the recipe label, not just the range name. Review the ingredient list, guaranteed analysis and calories for the exact product. A short marketing description cannot substitute for the full nutrient statement.
- Involve your veterinarian for therapeutic diets. Cats.com identifies Vet Life as a prescription line. A health condition is a reason to ask your veterinarian which diet is appropriate, not to select a therapeutic food based on marketing language alone.
- Compare cost using the amount your cat needs. The review characterizes Farmina as premium priced, but prices and package sizes vary. Check current prices for the exact recipe and compare the cost against the amount or daily calories your cat needs.
- Check package origin and lot details when needed. Because the review describes production in multiple countries, use the actual bag or can’s origin and lot code when contacting the manufacturer about a specific product.
What the review’s recall score says about safety
Cats.com says it appears Farmina has never recalled its dog or cat food and gives the brand 10/10 for recall history in its January 12, 2026 update. That is the review’s finding as of that date—not a guarantee about future recalls, nor proof that no consumer complaint or adverse-event submission exists.
FDA adverse-event records are a separate kind of evidence. A record covering May 2021 through June 2022 includes a consumer submission alleging bone fragments in Farmina N&D Quinoa Skin & Coat Quail & Coconut canned cat food. A later FDA records file covering June 2023 through January 2024 includes submitted reports naming Farmina products; an example in the returned excerpt concerns dog food. These are reports, not confirmed findings that a product was defective or caused illness. The FDA records state: “The existence of a report does not, itself, mean the product listed was defective or the cause of an adverse event.” See the FDA adverse-event records for May 2021 through June 2022 and the FDA records for June 2023 through January 2024.
If your cat becomes ill, contact a veterinarian. Keep the food packaging, lot code and purchase details available in case they are needed for veterinary follow-up or a report.

Farmina may merit a closer look if you want to compare a range of wet and dry recipes and are prepared to choose at the formula level. The Cats.com ratings give the brand stronger marks for customer experience and recall history than for price, while its ingredient-quality score is favorable within that reviewer’s rubric. Those scores can orient a comparison, but your decision should rest on the exact food, your cat’s life stage and needs, label information, cost, and veterinary advice where relevant.
