Yes. Jackie and Shadow’s third eaglet hatched at their Big Bear Valley nest in March 2025, after two siblings had already hatched earlier that week. Reports said the chick was first seen during a morning feeding on March 8. This was a 2025 event, not the pair’s current 2026 nesting season.
What happened at the Big Bear nest?
The third egg of the bald-eagle pair Jackie and Shadow began pipping on March 6, 2025. Pipping is the stage when a chick starts breaking through its shell. By an early-morning feeding on March 8, observers and news reports described the third chick appearing with its two older nest-mates.
CBS Los Angeles published its account on March 14, reporting that the family occupied a nest about 140 feet above the ground in a Jeffrey pine.
Timeline of the third hatch

| March 8, 2025 | The third eaglet was seen during an early-morning feeding, alongside the two earlier hatchlings. |
| March 14, 2025 | CBS Los Angeles published its report on the completed three-eaglet hatch. |

Viewers should distinguish that nonprofit-run feed from third-party recap pages.
Do not confuse the 2025 hatch with the 2026 season
The “third eaglet” headline refers specifically to the 2025 nesting season. Later coverage from Popular Science, published April 13, 2026, described two chicks in the pair’s 2026 season. The number of eaglets therefore changes by season; it does not mean a third 2026 chick was reported.

Why the March reports used the word “pipping”
Hatching is not instantaneous. When an egg begins pipping, the chick has started opening a crack in the shell, but it may still take time before the bird emerges and can be clearly seen. In this case, the March 6 pipping report preceded the March 8 sighting of the chick at a feeding.
