The advertised “Merrick grain-free dog food, 22 lb bag for $69” cannot be matched to a specific retailer listing or recipe from the available information, so treat $69 as an unverified offer—not a confirmed current price. Merrick sells several different grain-free dry recipes in 22 lb bags, and the recipe matters: ingredients, calories and feeding guidance differ.
What the $69 deal does—and does not—confirm
The offer as stated does not identify the seller, exact recipe, whether the price requires autoship, or the deal’s availability and terms. Check the product title and listing before buying; “Merrick grain-free” alone is not enough to establish which bag is discounted.
Search-result snapshots from Chewy showed a Healthy Weight 22 lb listing at $72.98 and an autoship price of $69.33. A separate Chewy chicken-recipe result also showed an autoship price of $69.33. These are retailer snapshots, not confirmation of the advertised $69 deal or its current availability. They should not be treated as equivalent one-time prices: subscription terms, stock, shipping and eligibility can affect the final cost. Chewy Healthy Weight listing; Chewy chicken recipe listing.

How to check whether the offer is worth it
- Open the retailer listing and confirm the full recipe name, bag size and product variant match the item you intend to buy.
- Check whether $69 is the one-time price or an autoship/subscription price. Review any first-order limits, recurring charge terms, delivery cost, stock and eligibility before checkout.
- Compare the final checkout total—not only the displayed bag price—with another listing for the same recipe and bag size.
- Use the feeding chart on the exact bag or product page. Merrick says amounts vary by age, size and activity and are initial recommendations to adjust as needed; the large-breed page also says to keep fresh water available. Do not transfer a feeding amount between recipes without checking its chart.
What to know about grain-free diets and DCM
The FDA has investigated reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs eating certain pet foods. Its consumer page says many reported diets had peas, lentils, other pulses and/or potatoes among prominent ingredients, and reports involved both grain-free and grain-containing diets. The FDA cautions that adverse-event reports alone cannot establish that a food caused a condition. The agency’s December 2022 update said it did not plan further public updates until meaningful new scientific information was available. FDA investigation page; FDA DCM questions and answers.
This information does not establish that a particular Merrick recipe is unsafe or implicated. The FDA encourages owners to discuss their dog’s diet with a veterinarian, especially before making a change.
