If your SPYPOINT FLEX is offline, not sending photos, or draining batteries, start with the power source and a restart—not the cellular connection. Then check the antenna, app sync status, and microSD card. Work through one change at a time so you can tell what fixed the problem.
Run these checks first
- Check power and restart. Confirm the battery or internal pack is charged, then switch the camera OFF and back ON. Replace or recharge the power source if needed. SPYPOINT’s FLEX Series troubleshooting manual also recommends formatting or replacing the microSD card as part of general troubleshooting.
- Check the antenna and location. Make sure the antenna is attached securely. If service is poor, try another location; the FLEX Series manual lists antenna attachment and relocation as remedies.
- Check app status and sync. Open the camera’s status page in the SPYPOINT app and review its daily sync time. The FLEX Series manual says a camera should communicate at least once every 24 hours under normal operation.
- Check the microSD card. SPYPOINT specifies a Class 10/U1 microSD card up to 512 GB for FLEX-M firmware work. For camera formatting during activation, hold FORMAT for five seconds. For manual firmware work, use FAT32 formatting on a computer and the files for your region.
- Check firmware. During first activation, the camera can download firmware remotely; SPYPOINT says this can take up to 15 minutes. The app’s Status tab shows the installed version.
- Inspect after 48 hours offline. If it has not communicated for 48 hours, SPYPOINT recommends inspecting the camera. Test with fresh batteries and a new microSD card, changing one at a time.
Fixes by symptom
The camera will not turn on
Verify that the power source is fully charged, then power-cycle the camera. If it still will not start, format or replace the microSD card and inspect the camera for visible damage. SPYPOINT includes these steps in its troubleshooting guidance.
The camera is offline or not sending photos
Check battery level, the app’s daily sync time, firmware status, and antenna placement. Relocate the camera if signal is weak. If the app shows no communication for 48 hours, inspect it in person with fresh batteries and a new card, testing after each change.
The battery drains unusually fast
Replace or recharge the power source and confirm the battery type setting. A September 2026 review of the FLEX-M2 reported rapid battery drain when a card was unformatted or unreadable, because the camera ran continuously. In that test, setting battery type to Auto, as SPYPOINT support recommended, resolved the issue. This is a reviewer-reported result for the FLEX-M2, not a guarantee for every FLEX model.

A firmware update fails
- Use a Class 10/U1 microSD card no larger than 512 GB for the FLEX-M firmware procedure described on SPYPOINT’s FLEX-M firmware page.
- Format the card as FAT32 on a computer, then copy the two update files from SPYPOINT’s download. Use the file applicable to your region.
- Eject the card safely, make sure the camera is OFF, and insert the card to perform the update.
- Check the version in the app’s Status tab. If it still shows the wrong version, repeat the procedure with another microSD card.
The FLEX-M support page displayed firmware version 1.6.0-10-gc44abe5 on June 19, 2026. That page listing is date-specific; check the support page for the current file and regional instructions before updating.
Cellular service is poor
Reattach and tighten the antenna, then test the camera in another location. These are the primary service remedies in SPYPOINT’s FLEX Series manual.

Set up a FLEX before taking it into the field
SPYPOINT’s activation instructions give this sequence. Allow time for the initial update and test before leaving the camera unattended.
- Install and open the SPYPOINT app, add the FLEX camera, and scan its QR code.
- Attach the antenna, insert the microSD card and batteries, and power on the camera.
- Allow the initial remote firmware download to finish; SPYPOINT says it can take up to 15 minutes.
- Hold FORMAT for five seconds, then press TEST.
- Confirm that the camera reports in the app. SPYPOINT says this can take about 30 minutes.

Choose replacements that match your camera
Before buying a card or alternate power source, verify compatibility with your exact FLEX variant and the relevant SPYPOINT instructions. Compare:
- Compatibility: camera model, region, card class, and card capacity.
- Power endurance: the trade-offs between AA batteries, a compatible rechargeable pack, or solar power.
- Field replaceability: whether you can swap or recharge the power source where the camera is installed.
- Verification: whether the app lets you confirm communication and firmware status after the change.
After each change, wait for the camera to report normally before deciding the problem is fixed.
