Chimelong Spaceship in Zhuhai, China, is the world’s largest aquarium by reported total water volume. The ranking below uses one August 2026 list’s facility-wide totals—not the size of each aquarium’s largest individual tank—and should be read as a comparison using that list’s counting method, not as an uncontested official census.
The 10 biggest aquariums by reported total water volume
The figures, locations and opening years below come from the same ranking published by ThrillZing on August 16, 2026. Volumes are rounded as reported there. In particular, the identical rounded totals for two entries do not establish a precise tie beyond the source’s figures.

What the ranking says about each aquarium
1. Chimelong Spaceship — Zhuhai, China
Guinness World Records identifies Chimelong Spaceship as the largest aquarium by total volume, recording 75,350,969 litres and dating the achievement to September 15, 2023. Guinness describes its record facility as having 38 aquarium tanks. Its exact record figure and the rounded figure in the table are two published representations of the same leading facility.
2. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi — Yas Island, UAE
The August 2026 total-volume list places SeaWorld Abu Dhabi second. Its position is not consistent across all published rankings: a separate September 2026 list that counts public-display water only puts it seventh. That difference illustrates why a ranking needs to state what its volume includes.

3. Chimelong Ocean Kingdom — Zhuhai, China
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is another major aquarium in Zhuhai. A visitor guide reports that it opened on March 29, 2014, and gives its volume as approximately 48.75 million litres; the August 2026 ranking rounds its total to 48.8 million litres. It once held the largest-aquarium record, but that is a historical claim: Chimelong Spaceship now holds the Guinness record.
4. Singapore Oceanarium — Sentosa, Singapore
Use Singapore Oceanarium as the current name. The August 2026 ranking reports that the former S.E.A. Aquarium closed in April 2025 and reopened three months later, expanded and renamed. The name and status change are reported by that ranking; they were not independently confirmed against an operator source here.
5. Georgia Aquarium — Atlanta, USA
Georgia Aquarium ranks fifth in the selected total-volume list. Older descriptions of it as the world’s largest aquarium refer to an earlier record period, not the current Guinness record-holder.
6. L’Oceanogràfic — Valencia, Spain
L’Oceanogràfic is listed just after Georgia Aquarium. The two appear with the same rounded total in the August 2026 ranking, so the listed order should not be read as proof that one has a precisely smaller facility-wide volume than the other.

Rank #2
- Compact: Dimension: 7.9"x5.9"x5.9"; 1 Gallon tank; ideal for small spaces, aquarium beginners caring for a single betta, a few shrimp, snails, or a tiny goldfish. Also works as a temporary hospital tank, quarantine tank, or desktop decor (After deducting the filter part, the actual usable volume is approximately 0.8 gal and it will further decrease after adding substrate)
- Customizable Lighting: features a 3-color LED hood with 10 adjustable brightness levels to showcase your fish and tank décor
- Self-Cleaning Filtration: Hidden filter keeps tank clean for easier maintenance. Note: Clean filter sponge and pump regularly to avoid clogging; regular water changes are required — this small tank does not support zero-maintenance use
- Thoughtful Design: its top feeding hole allows for easy feeding without removing the lid; four silicone feet for stability and quiet operation
- Complete Starter Kit: 1x 1 gallon Fish Tank, 1x Filter Sponge, 1x Adjustable Water Pump, 1x LED Hood (Note: The light requires a power transformer (not included) for use. Compatible transformers include 5V 0.5A, 5V 1A, 5V 1.5A, and 5V 2A)
7. Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium — Nagoya, Japan
The Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium ranks seventh by the same list’s reported total-water measure.
8. Moskvarium — Moscow, Russia
Moskvarium’s position depends especially on what a list counts. The August ranking uses a widely repeated facility total, while the September 2026 public-display-only list says the operator counts 3,000 m³ as exposition water and excludes Moskvarium from its top fifteen. These are different measures, not directly interchangeable estimates of the same scope.
9. Primorsky Oceanarium — Vladivostok, Russia
Primorsky Oceanarium is listed ninth. Its rounded reported total matches Moskvarium’s in the August ranking, but the table preserves that source’s order rather than suggesting a more exact comparison than the figures support.
10. National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium — Hengchun, Taiwan
The National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium completes this top ten, using the August 2026 list’s total-volume criterion.

Why published rankings of the biggest aquariums disagree
Total water volume is not the same as display-only volume
A facility-wide total can include water beyond the exhibits counted by a public-display-only list. City Viking’s September 4, 2026 ranking explicitly uses public-display water; the August ThrillZing list uses reported total volume. The lists consequently differ on entries such as SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and Moskvarium. Neither order should be treated as directly comparable without accounting for its definition.
A facility total is not its largest tank
The biggest aquarium overall and the aquarium with the largest single tank are different questions. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium’s official facility data gives approximately 10,000 m³ of water in total, while its Kuroshio Sea tank alone holds 7,500 m³; the facility lists 83 exhibition tanks. A single tank can therefore account for much—but not all—of an aquarium’s total.
Older record claims need a date
The record has changed hands. Georgia Aquarium and Chimelong Ocean Kingdom have both appeared in past largest-aquarium claims, but Guinness World Records’ current published record names Chimelong Spaceship. When comparing historic articles, check both the date and whether “largest” refers to a whole facility or one tank.
How to use this list when choosing an aquarium to visit
Water volume is a size measure, not a verdict on which aquarium is best. Use the locations in the table to narrow options, then consider the experience you want and check practical details directly with the operator before traveling.

- Location and access: account for the city, island or wider destination and your route there.
- Exhibit focus: look for habitats and displays that match your interests rather than assuming the largest facility will be the best fit.
- Time available: choose a visit that works with your trip length and schedule.
- Current arrangements: verify opening hours, tickets and access conditions with the aquarium, since these can change.
