Here are 10 records spanning athleticism, size, age and more—with dates attached, because some titles in Guinness’s 2015 cat roundup have since changed hands.
How to read these cat records
Guinness’s 2015 National Cat Day roundup provides the historical starting point for this list, but its “living” and “current” holders are snapshots, not timeless titles. Where an individual Guinness record page supplies a later result, that newer result is used. Measurements below describe individual record performances, not what cats generally can do.
10 remarkable Guinness cat records
1. Longest jump: Oscar — 2.58 m (8 ft 5 in)
Oscar, a rescue cat owned by Theodore Shiells, made the longest jump by a cat in Dallas, Texas, on 26 February 2025, according to Guinness World Records. Guinness says Shiells began training him two years earlier and that Oscar beat the previous record by more than 25 cm. The 2015 roundup had credited Alley with a 182.88 cm (6 ft) jump on 27 October 2013; that is a former result, not the current benchmark.
2. Loudest purr: Merlin — 67.8 dB(A)
Guinness’s 2015 roundup reported that Merlin, owned by Tracy Westwood, produced a purr measured at 67.8 dB(A) on 2 April 2015. This is a dated result from the roundup; it should not be read as confirmation that Merlin still holds the title today.

3. Oldest cat ever: Creme Puff — 38 years and 3 days
Creme Puff was born on 3 August 1967 and died on 6 August 2005, reaching 38 years and 3 days, according to Guinness World Records. This all-time age record is different from a “oldest living cat” title, which changes as living animals age and new claims are verified.
4. Longest fur: Sophie Smith — 25.68 cm (10.11 in)
The 2015 roundup reported that Sophie Smith’s fur measured 25.68 cm (10.11 in) in Oceanside, California, on 9 November 2013. The figure is tied to that dated measurement; the roundup alone does not establish a current holder.

5. Shortest living domestic cat by height: Lilieput — 13.34 cm (5.25 in)
Guinness’s 2015 roundup gave Lilieput’s height as 13.34 cm (5.25 in), measured from the floor to the shoulder on 19 July 2013. Guinness’s showcase identifies Lilieput as a former holder, so the measurement belongs to the record’s history rather than a claim about the shortest cat living now.
6. Longest domestic cat ever: Stewie — 123 cm (48.5 in)
Mymains Stewart Gilligan, known as Stewie, measured 123 cm (48.5 in) on 28 August 2010. Guinness identifies the Maine Coon as the longest domestic cat ever; its record page gives the measurement, and a 2025 feature confirms that he died in January 2013.
Rank #3
7. Tallest domestic cat ever: Arcturus — 48.4 cm (19.05 in)
Arcturus Aldebaran Powers reached 48.4 cm (19.05 in), verified in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on 3 November 2016, according to Guinness World Records. The all-time title is distinct from the tallest living cat category. Guinness’s 2025 feature says Arcturus died in a house fire in 2017.
8. Longest tail on a domestic cat ever: Mr. Pugsley Addams — 46.99 cm (18.5 in)
Guinness verified Mr. Pugsley Addams’s tail at 46.99 cm (18.5 in) in Mound, Minnesota, on 24 February 2025. The Guinness record page describes him as a silver Maine Coon. Tail length is its own category, separate from the record for overall body length.
9. Oldest living cat in the 2015 roundup: Corduroy — 25 years and 339 days
Guinness reported Corduroy, born 1 August 1989, as 25 years and 339 days old on 6 July 2015. This was a living-holder status reported at that time, not a present-day record. It also differs from Creme Puff’s all-time lifespan record.
10. Longest post-earthquake survival: a cat in Taiwan — 80 days
Guinness’s 2015 roundup reported that a cat survived for 80 days after Taiwan’s 21 September 1999 earthquake and was found in Taichung in December 1999. The available roundup passage does not provide a name or further verification details, so this account is best treated as a Guinness-reported historical claim rather than an independently established survival record.

Why record dates and categories matter
A “living” record can change without altering the all-time record, and a newer Guinness entry can replace a figure repeated in an older roundup. For example, the 2015 article named Savannah Islands Trouble at 48.3 cm (19 in) as tallest, while Guinness’s later all-time page lists Arcturus at 48.4 cm. Similarly, the old jump result for Alley has been surpassed by Oscar’s verified 2025 jump. Guinness notes that records change and that updates may not appear online immediately, so current-holder claims are worth checking against the individual record page.
There are ten entries in the historical roundup, but not every one remains a current title: the 2015 article also included newest breed and wealthiest cat categories, without enough accessible detail to responsibly repeat their specifics here. Its bonus mention of Hercules concerned a liger—a lion–tiger hybrid—not a domestic cat, so it does not belong among these ten cat records.
