Good Boxer names can be playful, confident, affectionate, classic, or simply easy to call across the yard. Browse more than 120 ideas below, then choose one that suits your dog as an adult and is easy for everyone in the family to say.
How to choose a name your Boxer can learn
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recommends choosing a short, recognizable name; one or two syllables can be a useful pattern. Avoid names that sound too much like everyday cues such as “no” or “sit,” and pick something that will still fit when your puppy is grown. Once you decide, use the name consistently in positive settings. A call name does not need a complicated backstory to work.
Boxers are described by the AKC as loyal, affectionate, intelligent, alert, courageous, and sometimes silly. Those traits can inspire ideas, but your own dog’s temperament is a better guide than any breed stereotype. The breed’s modern history has roots in Germany in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which may also suggest a German-inspired name. AKC Boxer breed information offers more context.
- Say it aloud: Choose a name that feels natural to call repeatedly.
- Check for confusion: Say it alongside cues your dog will learn, and avoid a name with a similar sound.
- Think long-term: A name should suit a bouncy puppy and a mature dog.
- Choose for your dog: Appearance, personality, family favorites, or no particular theme can all be good starting points.

How to narrow down your shortlist
- Make a short list: Start with names from the sections that feel right for your dog or family.
- Try each name aloud: Use the same tone and volume you expect to use during everyday training and play.
- Compare the sound: Check that the name is distinct from common cues and from other pets’ names at home.
- Picture the adult dog: If the name only feels right for a tiny puppy, consider whether you will still like it later.
- Let the household agree: The name is easier to use consistently when everyone is comfortable saying it.
Are these popular Boxer names?
There is no Boxer-specific ranking established here. The AKC’s 2025 popular dog names are general rankings, based on AKC purebred dog registrations and Canine Partner mixed-breed enrollments—not Boxer-only results. Its female top ten were Luna, Bella, Daisy, Lucy, Ruby, Willow, Maggie, Penny, Nova, and Sadie; its male top ten were Max, Hank, Teddy, Cooper, Gus, Bear, Duke, Maverick, Charlie, and Finn. The list can help you spot familiar choices, but it should not be read as a measure of what Boxer owners choose.
Rank #4
- SILENT, NO JINGLE, NO DANGLE: The tag slides flat onto the collar or harness so there is no jingling when your dog or cat eats, walks, or plays at home.
- BUILT TO STAY PUT: A stainless steel plate that never rusts sits inside a soft, elastic silicone band that grips the collar snugly and lies flat, so it will not swing, snag, or slip off during everyday wear.
- LASER-ENGRAVED, NOT PRINTED: Your pet's name and phone number are engraved by laser and sealed into the surface, so the text stays clear, easy to read, and waterproof for the life of the tag.
- PERSONALIZE IN SECONDS: Click Customize Now to type up to 4 lines of text and pick from multiple colors; choose Small, Large, or Extra Large so the tag fits collars from kittens and puppies to large dogs and horses.
- US SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS: Made and engraved in Orlando, Florida, so your tag ships faster than overseas sellers, and if anything arrives with a defect our team replaces it right away, no hassle.
In the AKC’s 2025 dog-names article, Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said, “Dogs are an extraordinary and important part of our lives and choosing a pet’s name is a fun part of the process when acquiring a dog.”
