A viral Twitch clip from October 7, 2025, led viewers to accuse streamer Hasan Piker of using an electronic shock collar on his dog, Kaya. The footage shows Kaya moving on or near a raised bed, Piker telling her to stay or return, and the dog yelping as Piker reaches toward something off-camera.

That sequence explains why the accusation spread, but it does not prove that an electric shock was delivered. The dispute involves three separate questions: what happened in the clip, what kind of collar Kaya wore, and whether the collar’s shock function was used.

What happened in the viral clip?

During a livestream on October 7, Kaya appeared to move on or away from a raised bed while Piker directed her to stay or return to her place. She then yelped. At roughly the same time, Piker appeared to reach toward something outside the camera’s view.

Viewers connected those moments and concluded that he had activated a remote-controlled shock collar to stop Kaya from moving. The controversy was soon nicknamed “Collargate”, with some users also calling it “Dogtober 7th.”

The clip establishes that Kaya yelped. It does not show a remote clearly enough to identify what Piker touched, reveal the collar’s settings, or independently confirm that an electrical stimulation occurred. Timing can make a short video look persuasive without answering what caused the sound.

How did Hasan Piker explain the yelp?

Piker denied shocking Kaya. His explanation was that she had “clipped herself” while getting off the bed, possibly catching a foot or dewclaw. He also said Kaya sometimes yelps during play or when she catches a dewclaw.

He said the collar was used for vibration, recall and tracking—not electric stimulation. According to his explanation, a vibration function can help get a dog’s attention when the dog is off-leash or too far away to hear a verbal cue. He also described the setup as including an AirTag or another tracking component.

When viewers suggested that he had reached for a shock-collar remote, Piker said he was reaching for a can or pack of Zyn nicotine pouches instead. On October 8, he showed a collar on stream and described it as capable of vibration and tracking but not shock.

Was Kaya wearing a shock collar?

This is where the public accounts began to conflict.

QTCinderella said she saw the collar in person after the controversy started. She described it as a shock-capable electronic training collar with the shock prongs removed or covered with tape. She also said she had never seen Piker use the shock function and believed he used vibration.

That account differs from Piker’s public description of the device as a vibration-only collar. It may indicate that the collar was originally designed with a shock feature, or that the model was capable of delivering one before being modified. It does not, by itself, show that the function was active or used during the October 7 stream.

Online investigators have also examined the collar’s shape, indicator lights, apparent tape and missing prongs. Those details have fueled speculation about the model and its capabilities, but low-resolution screenshots and product comparisons are not the same as a technical inspection. A collar’s ability to deliver stimulation is not evidence that stimulation was delivered at a particular moment.

What is confirmed, disputed and unproven?

Point Status
Kaya yelped during the October 7 livestream clip. Shown in the circulating footage.
Piker denied shocking Kaya. Confirmed as his public explanation.
Piker said he used a vibration-based training or recall collar with tracking features. Confirmed as his stated explanation.
The collar may have been a modified shock-capable model. Reported by QTCinderella; disputed in its public characterization.
Piker intentionally activated an electric shock during the clip. Not independently established.

The most accurate description is therefore that Piker was accused of shocking Kaya, denied doing so, and used an electronic training collar that third parties later described as potentially shock-capable. Available reporting does not provide conclusive veterinary, forensic, law-enforcement or platform findings proving that he activated the shock setting.

How did other creators and animal-welfare groups respond?

Ethan Klein accused Piker on Instagram of activating a shock collar and called the incident animal cruelty. xQc said the footage appeared to show Piker denying something viewers could observe. Other creators defended Piker or argued that the short clip was too ambiguous to support a definite conclusion.

PETA responded through a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. It did not conclude that Piker had shocked Kaya. Instead, it said it hoped his denial was true because shock collars can be dangerous and cruel.

Piker also said the controversy led to threats involving dognapping and threats against him personally. Those threats are a separate issue from whether the clip proves animal cruelty.

The broader criticism of Kaya’s livestream environment

Some veterinary and animal-behavior commentators criticized more than the disputed yelp. They raised concerns about footage in which Kaya appeared to remain on a raised bed while Piker streamed for long periods, as well as the use of electronic-collar training.

A veterinarian using the name CatalystVet described the handling as potentially abusive and criticized electronic-collar use. That was an interpretation of publicly available clips—not a reported physical examination of Kaya, a diagnosis, or an official legal finding.

For pet owners, the broader welfare question is worth separating from the internet dispute. A dog’s welfare cannot reliably be assessed from one brief clip. Relevant factors include whether the dog can freely move, rest, drink, toilet and disengage; whether training relies on rewards and clear cues; whether equipment causes pain or fear; and whether the dog shows persistent signs of stress or injury.

Vibration collars are not automatically harmless simply because they do not deliver an electric shock. Some dogs may find vibration startling or aversive, particularly if it is used as punishment or at high intensity. Any remote training device should be used cautiously, with a clear purpose and attention to the individual dog’s behavior. Reward-based recall training, secure fencing or long lines, identification tags and GPS tracking can often address the same practical concerns without relying on an aversive stimulus.

Why the wording matters

Calling the incident a confirmed electrocution or saying Piker definitely shocked Kaya goes beyond the available evidence. Conversely, identifying uncertainty does not mean every concern is baseless. The yelp was real, the collar was part of the setup, and people raised legitimate questions about electronic training equipment and the visible handling of the dog.

The responsible conclusion is narrower: the clip prompted a credible-looking accusation, Piker denied it and offered an alternative explanation, and later accounts complicated the description of the collar. None of those facts independently proves what happened inside the collar during that moment.

FAQ

Did Hasan Piker shock his dog Kaya?

The public clip does not independently prove that Piker activated an electric shock. Kaya yelped, and viewers interpreted Piker’s movement as reaching for a collar remote, but Piker denied shocking her and said she caught or clipped herself while moving off the bed.

Was Kaya wearing a shock collar or a vibration collar?

Piker described the device as a vibration and tracking collar. QTCinderella later said the collar she saw was a shock-capable model with its prongs removed or covered. That dispute concerns the device’s design and condition, not proof that its shock function was used.

What does “Collargate” mean?

“Collargate” is the internet nickname for the controversy surrounding the October 7, 2025, livestream clip. Some users also called it “Dogtober 7th.”

Did PETA confirm that Piker abused Kaya?

No. PETA said it hoped Piker’s denial was true because shock collars are dangerous and cruel, but it did not state that it had verified a shock or concluded that the clip proved abuse.

The Bottom Line

The October 7 clip confirms that Kaya yelped, not why she yelped or whether an electric shock caused it. Piker denied using shock and described the device as a vibration-based training and tracking collar. A later account said the collar may have been a modified shock-capable model, but that still does not establish that the shock setting was activated. The evidence supports describing this as a disputed animal-welfare controversy—not a proven case of Piker shocking his dog.
