There are three names to keep straight:

- Peggy: the real dog who portrays Mary Puppins.
- Wade Wilson: the original name of the male Dogpool in the comics.
The film’s official screenplay identifies the character as Mary Puppins, while Marvel describes her as Dogpool. The name is a joke combining Mary Poppins with the character’s canine appearance and affectionate personality.
Peggy is an animal performer, not the fictional dog’s in-universe identity.
What breed is Dogpool?
The answer depends on which Dogpool you mean.
Peggy, the dog who plays Mary Puppins, is a mixed-breed dog commonly described as a Pug–Chinese Crested cross, or Pugese. She became known in the United Kingdom after being named Britain’s Ugliest Dog before appearing in the Marvel film. Her distinctive appearance helped make her recognizable on screen.

The film does not officially state Mary Puppins’ fictional breed. Calling Dogpool a Pugese describes Peggy, the performer, not a confirmed biological detail about the Marvel character. Marvel’s official material also does not specify the comic-book Dogpool’s breed.
Dogpool’s comic-book origin
Comic Dogpool comes from Earth-103173. His original name is Wade Wilson, and he later adopts the Dogpool identity and joins the Deadpool Corps.
Marvel describes him as a male dog transformed by experimental cosmetics testing. The treatment gives him a regenerative healing factor. His origin echoes human Deadpool’s: an experiment produces a scarred character who is extremely difficult to kill.
What powers does comic Dogpool have?
Marvel lists Dogpool’s main power as a healing factor. His regeneration makes him extremely difficult to kill and gives him exceptional durability.

His abilities and skills include:
- Rapid regeneration: his body heals from injuries.
- Exceptional durability and near-immortality: his healing factor lets him survive extreme physical trauma.
- Canine weapons: he can use his claws and sharp teeth.
- Death-defying stunt survival: his background includes circus-style stunts.
A healing factor does not mean Dogpool cannot be injured; it means he can recover from damage far beyond an ordinary dog’s limits.
Does the movie Dogpool have superpowers?
The film does not confirm that Mary Puppins has a healing factor. Deadpool & Wolverine presents her as a friendly female dog and a Deadpool variant, but does not clearly show or explain that she regenerates like comic Dogpool.
Surviving events in the story is not, by itself, proof of superhuman regeneration. Marvel’s explicit healing-factor description applies to the comic character and should not automatically be applied to Mary Puppins.

Is Peggy really the “ugliest dog”?
Peggy is a real dog who was named Britain’s Ugliest Dog before being cast as Dogpool. The title refers to a competition; it does not mean that Peggy is unhealthy or poorly cared for. Her distinctive appearance helped her stand out and made her a memorable screen performer.

Are Mary Puppins and comic Dogpool the same character?
They are separate versions of the same broad Marvel concept: a canine counterpart to Deadpool. Comic Dogpool is male, was originally named Wade Wilson, and has an explicitly documented healing factor. Mary Puppins is female, is played by Peggy, and has no clearly confirmed regeneration in the film.
Dogpool’s role in the Deadpool universe
In the comics, Dogpool is associated with the Deadpool Corps and its multiverse adventures. In the movie, Mary Puppins provides a playful contrast to the violence and sarcasm around the human characters.
