Local reporting said authorities later identified the dog as an Olde English Bulldog, and District Attorney Scott Anderson said criminal charges did not appear warranted at that time.
What happened to Beau Clark
The Decatur Daily reported that Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Clark residence on Ramblewood Private Drive at 5:54 p.m. The home was off Vaughn Bridge Road, about five miles west of downtown Hartselle.
Beau was taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to local reporting. WHNT reported that Beau had ridden his bicycle to a neighbor’s house and had been around the dog before. That prior familiarity does not establish why the attack happened or mean the dog was safe in this instance.
The dog and the reported account
Early accounts described the dog as a pit bull. Authorities later described it as an Olde English Bulldog; use of the initial description alone would omit that correction. WHNT reported that the dog was put down at the scene.
