Its removable, machine-washable covers extend across the base, arms, and backs; the company describes the upholstery as water-repellent and stain-resistant; and replacement covers can be purchased separately. Those features can make cleaning and replacing a worn section easier, but they do not make the sofa chew-proof or claw-proof.
Other couches may suit different priorities: Lovesac Sactionals for flexibility, Sundays Movie Night for plush lounging, IKEA JÄTTEBO for value and storage, and Pottery Barn or Joybird for more traditional styles. Compare the exact cover, fabric, care instructions, layout, and replacement options—not just a broad “pet-friendly” label.

The company describes its fabrics as water-repellent and stain-resistant. These features can reduce cleaning friction, but they are not guarantees against damage or accidents.

Replacement covers may let you replace a worn or damaged section instead of the entire sofa. A modular layout also gives you flexibility to choose a configuration for your room and household.
Best for: Dogs that regularly lounge on the furniture, frequent spills, and buyers who value serviceability and flexible layouts.
Watch out for: Water-repellent and stain-resistant do not mean chew-proof, scratch-proof, or accident-proof. Confirm the exact fabric, configuration, and care instructions before ordering.
2. Lovesac Sactionals: Best for maximum configurability and long-term repairability
Lovesac Sactionals use separate seats and sides that can be rearranged, expanded, or reconfigured. Changeable covers and modules can be useful if you move, change your room layout, or need to replace a section over time.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Lovesac advertises a large selection of cover options, including machine-washable and pet-friendly fabrics. Its care guidance recommends performance weaves because they are less likely to snag than looser textures and less likely to let hair become deeply embedded. That is not a substitute for vacuuming, and care instructions vary by cover.
Best for: Households that want to reconfigure seating or replace covers and sections over time.
Watch out for: Not every cover has the same care requirements. Select the exact fabric and read its instructions; “pet-friendly” does not necessarily mean washer-safe.
3. Sundays Movie Night: Best plush couch with full removable covers
The Sundays Movie Night sofa is aimed at shoppers who want deep, lounge-oriented seating with removable upholstery. Sundays describes its frame and cushion slipcovers as removable and washable and its fabrics as performance fabrics with stain- and moisture-related features.

The comfort comes with maintenance: feather-fiber cushions need regular fluffing and rotation to help maintain their shape. Check care instructions for the exact configuration and fabric, and treat removable washable covers as a cleaning convenience—not permission for a dog to dig at seams or climb over arms.
Best for: Families and dog owners who want soft, deep seating and removable covers.
Watch out for: Confirm the care instructions and whether you are willing to maintain the cushions. Availability may change, so check the desired configuration and fabric before buying.
4. Burrow Range: Best modern modular option with pet-oriented fabric positioning
The Burrow Range sofa is a candidate for shoppers who prefer a contemporary modular design. Burrow describes its upholstery options as performance fabrics with pet-friendly positioning, and the modular format allows different seating arrangements.

7. Sabai Essential Sofa: Best sustainability and repair-oriented pick

8. Joybird Lewis Sofa: Best independently evaluated conventional sofa option
The Joybird Lewis Sofa is a conventional, customizable sofa rather than a modular-first system. Good Housekeeping included it in a 2025 pet-friendly couch roundup and reported about 40 pet-friendly fabric options and positive cleaning feedback.
Suitability depends heavily on the selected upholstery. The recommendation should not be treated as applying equally to every fabric option.
Best for: Shoppers who want a traditional sofa shape, customization, and a recommendation that includes third-party editorial feedback.
Watch out for: Choose a pet-friendly fabric option and confirm its care instructions.
How to choose the right dog-friendly couch
For muddy paws and liquid accidents
Look for the combination of removable upholstery, a clearly stated cleaning method, and any water- or stain-related fabric claims. Water-repellent fabric may buy time to blot a spill, but does not eliminate the need to act promptly. Check which parts come off: cushion-only covers and covers for the frame, arms, and backs offer different levels of coverage.
For shedding
According to Lena Gierasinska, Head of Product and Design at Barker and Stonehouse, smooth, tightly woven fabrics are a better option for resisting fur than high-pile or loose-weave materials, which can trap hair or snag. She describes microfiber as easy to wipe clean and resistant to scratching, but this is expert advice, not a guarantee for a particular sofa. Choose a fabric that suits your dog’s coat and follow its care instructions.

Color can affect how visible hair is, but it does not remove the need for regular cleaning. A washable throw or sofa cover can add a protective layer; measure first and follow the accessory’s care instructions.
For scratching and digging
No couch in this guide should be described as scratch-proof. Gierasinska advises avoiding loose weaves such as linen or tweed because claws can catch and snag them. Smooth, tightly woven upholstery may reduce snagging, but a determined dog can still damage seams, corners, and exposed upholstery.
If your dog digs before settling, prioritize replaceable covers and consider a washable throw over the favorite spot. Fabric choice can reduce some maintenance, but it is not a guarantee against claws or chewing.
For large dogs or multiple dogs
Look for enough seat width and depth that dogs are not forced to occupy the arms or back, and consider whether replacement covers or modules are available. Before ordering, measure the usable seat area, doorway, stairway, and the place where the couch will sit.

Check the exact number and arrangement of modules rather than relying on the word modular. Make sure the configuration leaves enough room for people and dogs.
For a smaller budget
IKEA JÄTTEBO offers a value-oriented combination of modular seating, storage, and washable covers. Compare the cost of the complete configuration rather than a single module, and check local pricing and availability.
For a classic look
Pottery Barn and Joybird are options for shoppers who do not want a visibly modular or contemporary couch. Fabric selection matters more than the brand name: a traditional sofa in a washable fabric can be more practical than a modular sofa in difficult-care upholstery.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the exact fabric. Ask whether it is machine-washable, dry-clean-only, removable, water-repellent, or simply stain-resistant. These are different properties.
- Check which parts come off. Confirm whether the covers include only seat cushions or also the frame, backs, arms, and chaise.
- Look for replacement covers or modules. Availability can matter if one section is damaged or worn.
- Match the layout to the dog. Measure usable seat width and depth, and account for the dog’s preferred sleeping position.
- Read the care instructions before purchase. Check washing, drying, and any special handling requirements for the selected fabric.
- Plan for the first accident. Keep towels and an appropriate cleaning method available, and consider a washable throw or spare cover.
How to protect and maintain a dog-friendly couch
Vacuum upholstery regularly with a suitable attachment, paying attention to seams and spaces between modules. Blot liquid promptly rather than rubbing it into the fabric. Follow the care instructions for the selected upholstery rather than substituting a generic cleaning method.
A washable couch cover for dogs or furniture throw can add a protective layer for a high-use seat or chaise. Measure for fit and follow the cover’s own care instructions. It is an accessory, not a promise that claws, chewing, or all spills will be prevented.
If shedding is the main problem, a reusable pet-hair remover for couches can supplement vacuuming. Follow the tool’s directions and test it on an inconspicuous area, particularly on velvet or textured upholstery.
Make a realistic plan for washing and drying removable covers. Keep the sofa usable while covers are drying and follow any instructions against tumble-drying. For modular sofas, note cover positions before removing them so reinstallation is easier.
What dog-friendly couch claims should make you cautious?
- Indestructible: Do not assume a household sofa will withstand determined chewing or digging.
- Chew-proof, urine-proof, odor-proof, or claw-proof: The sources reviewed do not establish these broad claims for the sofas in this guide.
- Performance fabric: This is not one universal care standard. Verify the exact fabric and cleaning instructions.
- Pet-friendly: Treat this as a seller’s positioning unless the relevant features are specified.
- Stain-resistant: This does not mean a spill can be ignored or that the cover is washable.
- Removable cover: A cover can be removable without being machine-washable.
FAQ
What is the best dog-friendly couch overall?
The 7th Avenue Modular Indoor is the strongest overall choice in this research-based guide because it has removable, machine-washable covers across the base, arms, and backs, as well as replacement covers. Its water-repellent and stain-resistant claims may help with everyday care, but it is not chew-proof or claw-proof.

Are performance-fabric couches safe from dog scratches?
No. Smooth, tightly woven upholstery may be less likely to snag than loose weaves, but no fabric should be treated as scratch-proof. Dogs that dig or chew can still damage seams and exposed upholstery.
Which dog-friendly couch is best for accidents?
Look for removable covers with clear washing instructions, and check any water- or stain-related fabric claims. The 7th Avenue Modular Indoor and Sundays Movie Night offer useful combinations of these features. Blot spills promptly and follow the fabric’s care instructions.
Are all removable couch covers machine-washable?
No. Care depends on the exact fabric. Some removable covers may be dry-clean-only, so check the product’s instructions before buying.
What is the best dog-friendly couch for shedding?
Consider smooth, tightly woven upholstery that is easy to vacuum, ideally with removable covers. Gierasinska recommends such fabrics because they can resist fur and snagging better than loose or high-pile options. Regular cleaning still matters.
The Bottom Line
Choose the 7th Avenue Modular Indoor if cleaning and replaceability are your top priorities. Consider Lovesac Sactionals for configurability, Sundays Movie Night for deep plush comfort, IKEA JÄTTEBO for value and storage, Burrow Range for contemporary modular styling, Pottery Barn or Joybird for traditional silhouettes, and Sabai for replacement slipcovers.
Whichever sofa you choose, verify the exact fabric and care instructions. Removability, washability, and water resistance can reduce maintenance, but they do not promise immunity from claws, teeth, dirt, or accidents.
