There is no defensible evidence here to rank five stink-bug sprays by effectiveness. The safer way to choose one is to match the current EPA label to the stink-bug species, the indoor or outdoor location, and your goal—killing visible insects or reducing entry. Spraying alone will not seal cracks, and EPA says household aerosols and foggers are not long-term prevention.
What a stink-bug spray can—and cannot—do
Brown marmorated stink bugs look for sheltered overwintering sites in early autumn and can gather around doors, windows and other entry points. They do not damage a home’s structure or reproduce indoors, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A contact spray can kill an exposed insect when the label permits that use, but it cannot stop additional bugs emerging through untreated gaps after the residue dries.
For that reason, treat a spray as a limited part of a prevention plan, not as a substitute for exclusion.
Five label checks to make before buying
1. The target species is named
Look for “stink bugs” or the specific species on the current label. The EPA examples cited here name stink bugs generally, or brown marmorated and kudzu stink bugs specifically. A product that merely says “household insects” is not proof that stink bugs are an approved target.

2. The application site matches your problem
Confirm whether the label allows indoor surfaces, outdoor surfaces, or both. “Indoor and outdoor” on a retailer page is not enough; read the registered label for the exact product and use site.
3. The use is contact spray or another labeled treatment
Some directions require spraying insects directly or treating places where they congregate. Do not assume that a perimeter, crack-and-crevice, broadcast, or fogging method is allowed simply because another product permits it.
4. Precautions fit your household
Read food, water, ventilation, re-entry and surface restrictions before purchase. Keep pets and people away exactly as the label requires, and never apply a pesticide to an animal unless its label specifically authorizes that use.

5. The label is current
Registrations and directions can change. Use the date and EPA registration information on the product label, not an old review or an unverified marketplace description.
EPA-labeled examples (not ranked reviews)
These documents show the kinds of label evidence to look for. They are not head-to-head tests, endorsements or proof that a particular listing is currently in stock.
| Label example | Stink bugs named | Sites and use described | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insecticide 2656 RTU (label dated 2024-02-29) | Stink bugs | Indoor contact spray; spray where insects congregate or individual pests when seen, contacting them directly | Follow all product-specific directions and precautions on the label |
| HD Indoor & Outdoor Insect Killer (label dated 2025-06-09) | Brown marmorated and kudzu stink bugs | Indoor and outdoor surface instructions | Indoor directions include covering or removing exposed food and food-processing surfaces; outdoor directions say to avoid water supplies and not spray into the air |
Verify the current label before using either example. A label’s inclusion of a species does not establish superior performance against another labeled product.

How to keep stink bugs out of your house
Seal entry points before autumn activity
- Caulk gaps around windows and other openings.
- Weatherstrip doors and install door sweeps where appropriate.
- Seal foundation cracks.
- Secure crawl-space openings and screens.
These are among EPA’s recommended exclusion measures in its brown marmorated stink bug guidance.
Reduce shelter and food near the foundation
Clear debris and manage edible vegetation close to the foundation where practical. These steps reduce attractive habitat but do not guarantee that insects will not arrive from surrounding areas.

Use a labeled spray only for the remaining exposed insects
Apply only to the surface and at the rate stated on the product label. Do not spray into the air, onto food, or near water supplies when the label prohibits it. Never improvise a perimeter treatment from indoor contact-spray directions.

Safety for homes with pets
Stink-bug products are pesticides, so the product label controls where and how they may be used. Remove or cover exposed food and food-contact surfaces when required, keep pets out of the treatment area for the stated interval, and prevent access to wet treated surfaces. Store the container in its original, closed packaging. If a pet may have contacted wet pesticide or shows symptoms after exposure, contact a veterinarian or an animal poison service and have the product label available.
Outdoor runoff and drift matter as well. EPA’s guidance for certain pyrethroid and synergized-pyrethrin outdoor products discusses measures intended to reduce runoff and drift; that language does not automatically apply to every spray. See EPA’s environmental-hazard labeling page.

Call a licensed pest-control professional when bugs persist despite sealing, when activity is widespread, or when treating surrounding vegetation would be necessary. EPA notes that professionals may address vegetation near the foundation in some situations. Ask which product, sites and re-entry instructions will be used, especially if pets spend time outdoors.

A note on specialized registrations
Active-ingredient names do not replace label reading. EPA’s veratrine registration notice, for example, describes products restricted to direct spray on specified exterior vertical surfaces, with horizontal-surface and perimeter applications prohibited and application frequency limited. That is a specific registration example—not general permission to use veratrine or any other ingredient as a home stink-bug treatment.
Bottom line
Buy a stink-bug spray only when its current EPA label names the target insect and authorizes the exact indoor or outdoor use you need. Use it for exposed bugs, follow every food, water, pet and re-entry precaution, and spend your prevention effort first on caulk, weatherstripping, door sweeps, foundation sealing and secured crawl-space openings.
