What the annual Access/Depredation fee does

The Access/Depredation fee is charged with annual resident and nonresident licenses, not daily licenses. Idaho Fish and Game says it supports hunting and fishing access and wildlife-management resources. It is an annual charge, so it applies to the first annual adult license purchase of the year rather than every additional annual license bought later that year.

How much is a one-day Idaho fishing license?

The first day costs $13.50 for an Idaho resident and $22.75 for a nonresident. If you buy consecutive days in the same transaction, each additional day costs $6 for a resident or $7 for a nonresident. The Access/Depredation fee is not required for a daily license.

Nonresident children under 14

A nonresident child ages 0–13 may fish without a license when accompanied by someone who holds a valid Idaho license. The child’s catch counts toward the accompanying adult’s limit. If the child needs a separate fish limit, the child must buy a Junior fishing license.

Resident or nonresident?

For licensing purposes, Idaho generally considers you a resident only after you have lived in the state for the six months immediately before applying. Anyone who does not meet that standard must purchase a nonresident license. Check Idaho Fish and Game’s residency rules if your move, military status or other circumstances make your status unclear.

Why a three-year price may look different

The current live nonresident fee page lists a three-year fishing license at $320.50. An older 2025–2027 rules PDF lists $291.25 instead. When the two conflict, use the live fee page for the current price and verify the amount at purchase.

Quick way to calculate your total

  1. Choose resident or nonresident status.
  2. Choose daily, annual or multi-year duration.
  3. Apply the age category: adult, Junior or no license for a child under 14 who is fishing under the applicable accompanying-adult rule.
  4. Add the annual Access/Depredation fee only when buying an annual license and only on the first annual purchase of that year.
  5. Add any Salmon/Steelhead or Two-Pole permit you need.

The Bottom Line

For 2026, budget $35.50 for an Idaho resident adult’s first annual license purchase and $118 for a nonresident adult’s first annual purchase, before optional permits. Daily licenses start at $13.50 for residents and $22.75 for nonresidents.
