Who won the 2025 Comedy Wildlife Awards?
The 2025 awards recognized winners across several categories as well as one overall winner. Nikon UK reported that the contest selected 44 images and videos from more than 10,000 entries, and held its awards night in London on 9 December 2025. Those figures are Nikon’s account of the competition.
Overall winner: Mark Meth-Cohn, “High Five”
Meth-Cohn’s High Five shows a young gorilla in Rwanda in a lively pose. The image also won the Mammals category. Recalling the scene, Meth-Cohn said one young male was “especially keen to show off his acrobatic flair, pirouetting, tumbling and high kicking.” That is the photographer’s interpretation of the gorilla’s behaviour, not something the photograph can establish about the animal’s intent.
Meth-Cohn photographed from ground level with a wide-angle lens to give the image more impact. He summed up the appeal of the awards this way: “The smile factor is just as important as the wow factor.” Nikon’s 2025 winners feature includes his account and the award results.
