Raw and cooked fresh food are not the same
Cooked fresh delivery
KatKin is described in the review as steam-cooked and frozen for delivery. Because the food is cooked, it is not served as uncooked meat. Follow the maker’s instructions for storage, thawing, and serving; frozen delivery still requires appropriate handling.
Raw delivery
Raw pet food consists of uncooked meat, offal, and raw bone. It may contain bacteria that cooking would normally kill, and bacteria can spread through contact or cross-contamination. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) also warns that raw pet food can carry antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. What the UK survey found—and what it cannot tell you
In a survey of 380 raw dog and cat food products bought from retail and online between March 2023 and February 2024, laboratory testing carried out by the UK Health Security Agency detected pathogenic bacteria in 35% of samples. The UK government’s veterinary notice reports Salmonella in 21%, Campylobacter in 14%, and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) in 12%; some samples contained more than one pathogen. Talk to your vet before choosing raw
Cats Protection advises discussing raw feeding with a vet and choosing a commercially available complete raw food rather than attempting to balance a homemade raw diet without professional direction. Cats need a meat-based diet with an appropriate balance of proteins, vitamins, and minerals; a homemade recipe can be difficult to balance. Ask your vet whether raw feeding is suitable for your cat and household, especially if your cat has a health condition or is on a prescribed diet.
