There is no evidence-based ranking of the “10 best” joint supplements for cats: the veterinary sources reviewed do not compare ten products head to head, and ingredient evidence is mixed. A useful shortlist should instead prioritize cat-specific labeling, transparent ingredient amounts, a form your cat will accept, and your veterinarian’s advice. The options below include supplements and veterinary diets, which are different types of care—not ten interchangeable products.
What is the best joint supplement for cats?
There is no single best choice for every cat. Choose with your veterinarian based on the cat’s diagnosis, other health conditions and medications, the product’s current feline label, and the ingredients and amounts per serving. The products and diets below are examples to discuss, not a clinical ranking or proof that a product will relieve pain.
Joint disease can be difficult to spot at home. VCA Animal Hospitals reports that “22% of cats older than 1 year and 90% of cats 12 years of age and older had evidence of DJD on X-rays”; the page does not state a publication year. X-ray findings and a cat’s everyday mobility are not the same thing, so a veterinarian should assess suspected stiffness or activity changes.
Ten joint-support options to discuss with your veterinarian
These options are grouped by what they are. The first five are cat-specific supplement formats or ingredient paths; the next two are veterinary therapeutic diets; the remaining three are ingredients discussed in feline joint-care guidance, not endorsements of any particular retail formula. Confirm that any product is currently labeled for cats in your country.

1. Cosequin for Cats sprinkle capsules
Nutramax lists glucosamine hydrochloride, sodium chondroitin sulfate, and manganese for this feline product. It is a sprinkle-capsule format, which may suit a cat that accepts powder mixed into food. Ingredient listing does not establish clinical effectiveness: VCA says controlled studies have failed to show a benefit for glucosamine in cats, and notes that definitive benefits for glucosamine/chondroitin are lacking. Check the current label for directions and ingredients. VCA’s overview of arthritis and nutrition; Nutramax’s Cosequin sprinkle-capsule information.
2. Cosequin for Cats soft chews
Nutramax lists a soft-chew feline version and reports total omega-3 and EPA+DHA amounts. Those are not interchangeable figures: when assessing omega-3 content, look for EPA and DHA specifically, not just total oil or total omega-3s. Compare the current package directions and amount per chew with your veterinarian’s advice. The existence of a listed amount is not independent evidence that the product treats arthritis. Nutramax’s Cosequin soft-chew information.
3. Flexadin Advanced for Cats
Vetoquinol lists a cat-specific daily chew containing undenatured type II collagen and omega-3 ingredients. VCA discusses undenatured type II collagen as one of several possible nutraceutical approaches, but that does not prove that every product containing it is effective. The manufacturer notes amounts on its product page; check the formula for your market because formulations can differ by country. Vetoquinol’s Flexadin Advanced Cats information; VCA’s discussion of feline joint nutraceuticals.

4. Antinol for Cats
Antinol’s manufacturer describes its cat product as a green-lipped mussel extract. VCA discusses green-lipped mussel as an ingredient with promising feline DJD evidence and names Antinol in an overview of feline DJD. Manufacturer efficacy language remains a product claim, not independent proof that the product will help a particular cat. Review the current feline label and ask your veterinarian whether it suits your cat. Antinol Europe’s product information; VCA’s degenerative joint disease overview.

5. Cat-appropriate EPA/DHA fish oil
EPA and DHA may be relevant to joint support, but “fish oil” alone does not tell you how much of either fatty acid a serving provides. VCA cautions that concentrations vary and some products may not supply an adequate amount. Have your veterinarian assess the EPA and DHA amounts separately and the product’s suitability rather than choosing by total oil volume. Do not improvise a dose from a different product’s label. VCA’s arthritis and nutrition guidance.
6. Hill’s Prescription Diet j/d
This is a veterinary therapeutic diet, not an over-the-counter supplement. VCA names Hill’s Prescription Diet j/d as an example of a joint-support diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Ask your veterinary team whether the feline formulation is appropriate and available in your market, and how it would fit with your cat’s overall nutrition plan. VCA’s description is educational guidance, not a head-to-head diet trial. VCA’s joint-support overview.

7. Royal Canin Mobility Support
VCA also names Royal Canin Mobility Support as an omega-3-rich joint-support diet example. Like j/d, it is a diet rather than a supplement, and availability and feline formulations vary by market. Have your veterinarian confirm the specific product and whether a diet change is suitable for your cat. VCA’s joint-support overview.
8. Low-molecular-weight chondroitin
VCA notes possible benefit from low-molecular-weight chondroitin in some cats, while also emphasizing the limited and non-definitive evidence for joint nutraceuticals. That ingredient discussion should not be generalized to every product labeled “chondroitin.” If considering a retail formula, verify a cat-specific label and ask the veterinarian to evaluate the actual ingredients and serving directions. VCA’s nutraceutical discussion.
9. Microlactin
Microlactin is another nutraceutical approach discussed by VCA; the source does not establish that every retail formula containing it works in cats. Treat it as an ingredient to discuss, not a proven product category. The veterinarian should check the precise formula, feline directions, and compatibility with the cat’s care plan. VCA’s nutraceutical discussion.

10. Avocado/soy unsaponifiables (ASU)
VCA discusses ASU among possible nutraceutical approaches but does not establish that every supplement containing it benefits cats. If a product lists ASU, confirm it is specifically intended for cats and review the whole formula—not just the featured ingredient—with your veterinarian. VCA’s nutraceutical discussion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do cat joint supplements work?
It depends on the ingredient and the individual cat; the evidence does not support a blanket yes. VCA states that controlled studies have failed to show a benefit for glucosamine in cats. Its nutraceutical overview says research for definitive benefits from glucosamine/chondroitin is lacking, while discussing possible benefit from low-molecular-weight chondroitin in some cats and other ingredients with incomplete, ingredient-specific evidence. None of that establishes that a particular retail brand will improve mobility.
Product labels can tell you what the manufacturer says is in a serving and how it should be given; they do not substitute for independent comparative evidence. VCA also cautions that nutraceuticals are not subject to the same testing and regulation as pharmaceuticals. Quality and label accuracy can vary, so ask about product quality and use the current package for the exact formula you have.

How to compare products without a “best” ranking
- Confirm the product is for cats. Do not assume a dog formula or dose is suitable for a cat.
- Check the full ingredient amounts. For oils, look for EPA and DHA amounts separately; total oil volume alone is not enough.
- Match the format to your cat. Consider whether a chew, capsule, or oil can be given reliably without compromising meals or causing stress.
- Check current, market-specific labeling. Ingredients, amounts, directions, and availability may vary across countries or change over time.
- Ask about quality and interactions. Bring the package or a clear photo of the label to the veterinary visit, especially if your cat has other conditions or takes medication.
- Set a way to assess mobility. Note changes in jumping, stairs, grooming, or getting into the litter box and share them with your veterinarian.
Is glucosamine safe for cats?
Safety and effectiveness are separate questions. The available veterinary guidance does not establish glucosamine as effective for feline osteoarthritis, and an over-the-counter product may contain other ingredients or amounts that matter for an individual cat. Ask your veterinarian before starting it, follow the exact feline product label, and do not infer a dose from a human or dog product. Seek veterinary advice if your cat develops a concerning change after starting any supplement.
What can I give my cat for stiff joints?
Start with a veterinary assessment rather than selecting a supplement by symptoms alone. Osteoarthritis is progressive, and a veterinarian can distinguish it from other causes of reduced movement and build a broader treatment plan. Depending on the cat, that plan may include weight management, appropriate nutrition, controlled movement, rehabilitation, and medication when prescribed. Supplements may complement that care; they should not replace diagnosis or prescribed pain management.
Small home changes can make movement easier while you work with the veterinary team. VCA suggests adapting the environment for cats with osteoarthritis; practical options include stable steps or ramps to favorite resting spots, non-slip surfaces, accessible food and water, and comfortable beds. Never give a cat human pain relievers: some can be dangerous to cats. VCA’s guide to helping a cat with osteoarthritis; VCA’s DJD guidance.
