Caleb wasn’t looking for a cat when he found Nala. He was walking home from a job interview when a kitten’s meows caught his attention—and one shoulder cuddle changed his mind about keeping her.
How Caleb found Nala
On June 24, 2025, Cats.com published Katelynn Sobus’s account of how Caleb came across Nala. Returning from a job interview, he heard a kitten meowing and eventually spotted the tiny animal at his feet. Caleb said he had no experience caring for a cat and initially thought the kitten was male. His first reaction was, “Like, this thing is little,” as recounted in the Cats.com story.
The moment that changed his mind
Caleb had not set out to adopt the kitten. But after he picked her up, she curled onto his shoulder, and he decided to keep her. He named her Nala, inspired by his fondness for The Lion King.
The story captures the bond that followed in Caleb’s words: “It’s like we’ve been friends my whole life.” Nala became a playful, mischievous companion who follows him around and likes to lie on his chest. Her antics include unraveling toilet paper.

That is Nala’s story as reported by Cats.com, not a treatment recommendation for other cats.
