There is no dependable universal number of cups for a Cane Corso puppy at a given age. The right daily portion depends on the puppy’s current weight, growth, body condition, activity, and the calories in its food. Start with the feeding directions for a complete and balanced large-breed growth food, measure the amount, and adjust with your veterinarian as your puppy grows.
How much should you feed a Cane Corso puppy?
Use the food label’s feeding guide as a starting point—not a guaranteed prescription—and match it to your puppy’s current weight and age. Cup amounts do not translate reliably between foods because calorie content varies. A chart made for another brand, or another puppy, cannot establish the right portion for yours.
Choose a complete and balanced food whose nutritional adequacy statement covers growth of large-size dogs expected to weigh 70 pounds or more as adults. Purina recommends food made for large-breed puppies and advises checking that the statement includes this large-size growth claim. Purina’s Cane Corso feeding guide explains its recommendation.
AAFCO adequacy statements can be based on different claims: feeding-test substantiation, formulation to nutrient profiles for growth (including large-size dogs), or a statement that the food is comparable to another product. These are not interchangeable descriptions, and an adequacy statement does not necessarily mean the food passed a feeding trial. VCA’s large- and giant-breed nutrition guidance describes these distinctions.

Feeding schedule by age
The schedule below addresses meal frequency and life stage, not a fixed daily cup quantity. The sources differ on how many meals young puppies should receive, so ask your veterinarian which schedule fits your puppy.
| Age or stage | Practical guidance | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Weaning to about 5–6 months | Feed measured meals of an appropriate large-breed growth food. Purina’s Cane Corso guide recommends three meals a day. | VCA advises at least four small meals for puppies generally. Confirm meal frequency with your veterinarian. |
| About 5–6 months onward | Purina says meal frequency can decrease to two meals a day. Continue adjusting the daily total to the puppy’s measured growth and body condition. | Age alone does not tell you to increase or reduce the total ration. |
| Around 18 months | Purina says Cane Corsi finish growing around this age and can transition to adult food. | Large- and giant-breed maturity varies. Confirm timing with your veterinarian and check the food’s life-stage label. |
General guidance for large and giant breeds may use a broader maturity window than a breed-specific estimate. The AAHA guidance on age-specific and breed-specific diets discusses life-stage considerations; your individual dog’s maturity should guide the transition.

How to tell whether the portion is right
Keep your puppy lean and assess its body condition and growth trend rather than relying on appetite or breed reputation. VCA identifies a body condition score of 4–5 out of 9 for large and giant dogs, with 4 out of 9 safer for puppies to help avoid overly rapid growth. Have your veterinarian assess body condition and growth.
Overfeeding can make a large-breed puppy grow faster than its skeleton can safely keep pace, increasing the risk of developmental orthopedic problems—even when the food itself is appropriate. As VCA puts it, “It is always essential to adjust the amount of food a dog eats to maintain a healthy body condition, but it is critical for large and giant breed puppies.”

How to measure and adjust food
- Read the food’s adequacy statement. Confirm that it covers growth of large-size dogs, as well as the appropriate life stage.
- Begin with the package directions. Use the puppy’s current weight and age to find the label’s starting amount. Follow the label’s units and serving instructions.
- Measure the ration consistently. A digital kitchen scale is more precise than an imprecise or heaped cup measure. If you use a cup, keep the method consistent.
- Track growth and body condition. Weigh your puppy and review its condition with your veterinarian. Purina recommends assessing after feeding the suggested amount for 2–3 weeks, then adjusting as needed.
- Reassess as your puppy grows. Review the amount whenever weight, growth, activity, or body condition changes; ask your veterinarian to help interpret the trend.
Label portions may exceed an individual dog’s energy needs, according to VCA. Do not feed extra to try to make a Cane Corso grow faster; growth rate is not a goal to maximize.

Purina says Cane Corsi finish growing around 18 months, but that is an approximate breed-specific guide, not a universal deadline. Large- and giant-breed dogs can mature at different rates. Ask your veterinarian when your puppy is ready, and ensure the adult food’s life-stage labeling matches the dog’s needs.
