A “pet-friendly” label is only a starting point: policies and exceptions can differ by property.
How do I find a cat-friendly hotel or rental?
- Search for listings that mention cats. Look for a policy that names cats, not only a general pet-friendly badge. Then verify the policy with the actual hotel or rental host.
- Confirm your dates and room or unit. Ask whether cats are allowed in the specific accommodation available for your stay. A brand-wide policy does not establish that every location, room type, or date is eligible.
- Get the full cost and restrictions. Ask about pet fees, deposits, damage terms, animal limits, and any restrictions on room type, weight, or number of pets.
- Check the day-to-day rules. Find out whether your cat may be left alone, whether a carrier is required, which areas are off-limits, and how housekeeping works.
- Review cancellation terms. Check what happens if the property cannot accommodate your cat or if its pet policy does not match what you were told.
- Save written confirmation. Keep the property’s message or ask for the cat to be added to the reservation so the arrangement is documented.
Use this message to verify a booking
“Hello, I’m considering booking for [dates] and will bring one cat. Can you confirm that cats are permitted in the room or unit available for those dates? What is the total pet fee or deposit, and are there limits on number, weight, or room type? May the cat be left unattended in a carrier or room? What are the housekeeping and common-area rules? Could you add the cat to my reservation or confirm these details in writing?”
Does this pet-friendly hotel allow cats?
Ask the specific property. “Pet-friendly” does not guarantee that cats are accepted, and a hotel brand’s standard policy may have location-specific exceptions. For example, Red Roof’s policy defines domestic pets as cats or dogs but also says policies can vary by property and tells guests to confirm details with the hotel before booking.
Availability can matter as much as permission. My Place Hotels recommends contacting the hotel directly about pet-friendly room availability, fees, and property-specific deviations. Ask about the room you can actually reserve for your dates, rather than relying on a general statement about the brand.

What do hotel pet policies cover?
Official hotel policies illustrate why the property-level check matters. These are examples of published brand policies, not guarantees that every location has identical rules or charges; confirm current terms with the hotel you plan to book.

How do I verify a cat-friendly rental?
For a rental, contact the host through the booking platform and get explicit confirmation that your particular cat is accepted in the unit for your dates. Ask for all charges, rules, and cancellation terms in writing. Do not treat a platform-level pet filter or a broad “pets allowed” label as confirmation that cats are permitted; the platform rules and filters alone do not settle the host’s terms for your booking.

What should I pack for a hotel or rental stay with a cat?
Check whether the property requires anything specific. La Quinta’s policy says guests staying with a cat need to provide a litter box, so a portable travel litter box can be a useful packing item. Do not assume another property has the same requirement; ask before you travel.
