A man walking to his car noticed a very skinny, frightened puppy wandering alone in a parking lot. He comforted the pup, offered him water, and took him home to eat, according to a story published by iHeartDogs on September 29, 2023. The article does not identify the man or say what happened to the puppy afterward.
What happened in the parking lot
In its account, iHeartDogs says the man approached the frightened puppy cautiously and placed him in the front passenger seat of his car. The puppy appeared thirsty, so the man first offered water in a small lid, then made a larger container from a plastic bottle. He later brought the puppy home and gave him food, which the pup ate eagerly.
The account does not name the rescuer, give the location, or establish the puppy’s later health, placement, or outcome. It also does not identify the source or provenance of the video embedded on the page, so those details should not be assumed.
What to do if you find a stray dog
There is no single procedure that applies everywhere. The ASPCA advises people who find a stray to contact their local shelter for guidance on the appropriate next steps. Depending on your area and circumstances, animal control, a veterinary clinic, or a rescue group may also be able to direct you.

- Ask local animal services first. They can advise you about safe handling, where to bring the dog, and any local requirements for reporting or temporary care.
- Remember the dog may have an owner. The AVMA says shelters, animal-control agencies, and veterinary clinics can scan a found pet for a microchip. A chip supplies an identification number, not GPS tracking; reunification depends on connecting that number to usable, current registry information.
- Do not assume the story’s actions are a universal protocol. The account describes one person’s response, but does not establish that approaching or transporting an unfamiliar dog is safe or appropriate in every situation.
If transport is appropriate
Follow advice from local animal services about whether and how to move the dog. For vehicle transport, the ASPCA recommends securing a pet in a ventilated, hard-sided carrier. Its travel guidance also says not to leave an animal alone in a parked vehicle. These are general transport precautions, not a reason to approach or handle a dog that may be frightened or unsafe to touch.
