No Paris-based dachshund-specific rescue or currently available dachshund was confirmed in the sources reviewed, so contact each organization directly about availability, eligibility, fees and its application process.
For paperwork, La SPA’s October 2024 practical guidance says adopters sign a Certificat d’Engagement et de Connaissance (CEC) at least seven days before adoption, complete a transfer contract with the association, and receive a veterinary certificate dated less than three months before transfer. Confirm the current requirements with the organization handling the dog.
Where to look for a dachshund to adopt in Paris
Begin with La SPA’s adoption listings and refuge contacts, then contact animal shelters and associations serving Paris and the wider Île-de-France region. La SPA explains its general adoption routes and support for animals that can be harder to place, including older animals and animals with health conditions or disabilities. Its listings are a useful starting point, but the sources reviewed did not confirm a dachshund currently available in Paris.
No Paris-area dachshund-specific rescue was verified either. A breed rescue based in the UK describes matching dogs with homes and sometimes conducting a home check, but that is not evidence of a Paris or French rule. Ask local organizations whether they have a dachshund or dachshund-type dog, and whether they know of another nearby association with a suitable dog.

What to ask before applying
Dog availability and adoption procedures can vary by organization and by the individual dog. Before making plans, contact the association caring for the dog and ask:
- Is a dachshund or dachshund-type dog currently available, and do you accept applications from my area?
- What documents and application steps do you require? Are there interviews, visits, introductions with household members or other animals, or a home check?
- What is the current adoption fee, and which veterinary procedures, records or services does it cover?
- What do you know about this dog’s health, temperament, handling needs, routine, training and socialization?
- What care or home adaptations, if any, does the organization or the dog’s veterinarian recommend?
Do not treat requirements shown on a cat-adoption page as rules for dog adoption. For example, the Club de Défense des Animaux Paris 12 page describes cat-specific eligibility, fees, identity and address documents, a contract and follow-up; it does not establish dachshund or dog-adoption criteria.

Eligibility: what is known and what to verify
The reviewed sources do not establish a universal Paris rule for a dog adopter’s age, residence, housing type, work schedule, garden access or home visit. The association responsible for a particular dog sets the application process and assesses whether a home suits that animal. Ask for its criteria rather than assuming that living in Paris, owning a garden or meeting a particular schedule automatically qualifies or disqualifies you.
Give the rescue an accurate picture of your household and daily life, including who lives at home, your routine, how long the dog may be alone, other animals and how you can meet the dog’s care needs. La SPA’s guidance says the adopter’s commitment should be compatible with the animal’s biological and behavioral needs; its CEC guidance also covers dogs’ education and socialization.

French adoption paperwork to expect
La SPA’s practical guide, dated October 2024, describes three important documents or steps. Because the guide notes that its practical information may evolve, confirm current instructions with the association and check the current official rules for an individual adoption.
Certificat d’Engagement et de Connaissance (CEC)
The adopter signs the CEC at least seven days before adoption, according to La SPA’s guidance. It is intended to make the adopter aware of the animal’s needs and the commitment involved. For a dog, the guide says it covers biological and behavioral needs, social organization, expected lifespan and adult size, estimated annual upkeep excluding health expenses, and advice on education, familiarization, socialization and bite prevention.

Transfer contract
The association and adopter complete a transfer contract. La SPA says it identifies the association, adopter and animal; records the transfer date and documents supplied; and commits the adopter to care compatible with the animal’s biological and behavioral needs.
Veterinary certificate
The veterinary certificate must be established before transfer and be less than three months old at adoption, according to the same guide. It records the animal’s identification and observed health information, as well as relevant details such as vaccination, sterilization, passport and behavioral evaluation when applicable. Ask the association which records will accompany the dog and whether any items are not applicable.

Preparing your home for the individual dog
There is no verified Paris or French dachshund-specific home-preparation checklist in the sources reviewed. Ask the rescue what is appropriate for the dog you are considering before buying equipment. In particular, find out about the dog’s medical history, temperament, handling needs, daily routine, training and socialization, and any adaptations a veterinarian has recommended.
The CEC’s topics offer a practical starting point for that conversation: ask about the dog’s biological and behavioral needs, expected adult size, education and socialization. A ramp, harness, stair gate, special bed or other item should be based on the individual dog’s needs and the advice of its rescue or veterinarian—not treated as a legal requirement or universally necessary for every dachshund.
