Yes. If by “kingfish” you mean king mackerel (Scomberomorus cavalla), it has very small scales over most of its body, except for the pectoral fins. The name “kingfish” can also refer to yellowtail kingfish, so the species matters.
What kind of scales does king mackerel have?
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services describes king mackerel as having “very small scales that cover the entire body except the pectoral fins.” Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services: King Mackerel
That means the scales may be difficult to see, but the fish is not scaleless. The exception named by the agency is the pectoral fins.
Which fish does “kingfish” mean?
In many contexts, kingfish means king mackerel, whose scientific name is Scomberomorus cavalla. NOAA Fisheries classifies it in the genus Scomberomorus and family Scombridae. NOAA Fisheries: King Mackerel
