The best cat hotel is the one that fits your cat’s space, health needs, and temperament, not the one with the most elaborate suite. Cats.com’s list of 20 US cat boarding facilities, last updated February 17, 2026, is a useful shortlist that runs from cat-only hotels to larger pet-care operators with cat areas. It answers the question its opening poses: “Who takes care of your cat when you have to be away from home?” Use the list to narrow your options, then compare the care each facility actually provides.
What the list covers, and what it does not
The Cats.com article is US-focused. It includes cat-only hotels, cat resorts, and broader pet-care operators that have accommodations for cats. Its framing presents a cat hotel as a setting where carers can give attention outside the owner’s home, useful when a pet sitter is not suitable or a cat needs more focused attention. That is the publisher’s framing, not a veterinary recommendation.
Treat the list as a set of leads rather than a live directory. The descriptions come from one editorial source and have not been checked against each facility’s booking system, so they do not confirm that a property still operates, is taking new cats, or offers a listed feature on your dates.

The list mixes cat-only providers with larger pet-care organizations. Where a listing says the cat room is separate from a dog kennel, as Westlake Animal Inn does, that separation is the detail to confirm, not an assumption you should make for every entry.
Affordable versus luxury: what the price examples show
The Cats.com list does not publish prices for its 20 facilities in the material available, so price comparisons have to come from other providers. The three examples below are dated, local, and in different currencies. They illustrate how rates are structured. They are not a price range for the listed facilities and should not be compared as one scale.

Compare what each price buys rather than the headline number. A Comfort room with daily care included can be a better value than a suite where medication, grooming, or extra cats are charged separately. Because the Adelaide list dates from July 2025 and the Singapore and San Diego figures depend on season, request the current quote for your exact dates before you rely on any of them.
How to tell affordable from luxury in practice
Luxury in cat boarding usually means layout, décor, and enrichment. Those features matter, but they are not the same as care. Judge each facility on four things:

- Space. Whether your cat gets its own room or enclosure, and how much vertical room it has. The list describes condos, villas, chalets, and cabins; the floor area and occupancy limit are what determine comfort.
- Care. Staffing, cleaning, check frequency, and whether medication can be given. These are the parts of the stay that matter most when something goes wrong.
- Enrichment. Climbing features, catwalks, windows, and play sessions suit an active cat. A cat that hides or stays low may get little benefit from them.
- Extras. Webcams, in-room televisions, music, and treats engage owners and cats, but they do not replace care.
A higher-priced room with the same core care is not a better choice for a cat that spends its days under a bed.

Multi-cat households
Several listings describe rooms for cats from one household. Kountry Pet Resort and Training Center offers options for household cats to stay together, Meeow Chicago describes larger rooms for household groups, and Whiskers Luxury Boarding for Cats lists a large room option. Ask whether the cats will share one room, the room’s dimensions, and the occupancy limit. Cats that get along at home can still be stressed by a new space, so ask whether staff can separate them if needed.

Cats on medication
Purr Life Luxury Cat Resort & Grooming lists medication support, including certain specialized care. Catology lists medication administration. Before you book, ask who gives doses, what training they have, what written instructions they need, whether a veterinarian is available for escalation, and what medication administration costs. Confirm the exact medication and schedule in writing, not only that the facility offers “medication support.”
Senior or mobility-limited cats
Camp Kitty offers single-level cabins for older or mobility-limited cats. The Carnegie Cat Clinic brochure describes a geriatric accommodation near its technicians and a doctor, which is a different model: a clinic setting rather than a hotel. Ask about access to food and litter without climbing, how often older cats are checked, and whether staff can monitor without disturbing a cat that rests quietly.

Shy or easily stressed cats
Hiding places, quiet rooms, and cat-only areas suit cats that are easily stressed. Happy Cat Hotel lists hiding spaces, and Meadowlake Pet Resort and All About Cats describe cat-only spaces. Ask how noise is managed, whether dogs are on site, and whether staff will leave a familiar blanket, bed, or litter box in the room.
Before you book: a checklist
- Total cost for your dates. Include peak-season or holiday changes, extra cats, medication, grooming, late pickup, and deposits.
- Dogs and air. Whether dogs share the building or air-handling system, and how cleaning, ventilation, and isolation are handled.
- Overnight cover. Who is on site overnight, how often cats are checked, and what the plan is for a medical emergency, including the nearest veterinary provider.
- Health records. Vaccination and test requirements vary by facility. The Carnegie Cat Clinic brochure requires current rabies and FVRCP vaccination and a negative fecal test. Obtain the chosen facility’s written admission rules and ask whether they differ for your cat’s age or health.
- Updates and tours. Whether you can tour the facility before booking, and what updates you will receive during the stay.
- Terms. Check-in and check-out windows, minimum stay, cancellation terms, and holiday rules.
A shortlisting sequence
- Start with the cat’s needs. If the cat needs medication, a single-level space, or a room for several cats, filter the 20 facilities to those that describe that feature.
- Choose cat-only facilities first if your cat is easily stressed by dogs, then check the remaining options for separation.
- Request written terms from two or three facilities covering the cost for your dates, care inclusions, admission rules, and emergency plan.
- Tour the facility where possible, and compare the written answers against what you see.
Cats.com’s list gives you a starting point. The decision rests on the answers you get from the facility itself.
