Supreme Source makes two dry cat foods, and on paper both are reasonable options for a healthy adult cat or kitten. Each recipe leads with named animal meals, lists the same minimum protein and fat levels, and carries a manufacturer statement that it is formulated to meet AAFCO cat food nutrient profiles for all life stages. The trade-offs are real: peas, lentils, or chickpeas appear in the ingredient lists, the range is only two recipes, and the brand publishes little detail about where its ingredients come from. The evidence behind all of this is label-based. No independent feeding-trial results or individual health outcomes for these recipes are established in the public material available as of October 2026.
The two recipes at a glance
Supreme Source currently sells two recipes, both dry. The manufacturer’s product pages are the primary source for ingredients and guaranteed analysis, and the figures below are as listed on those pages when checked in 2026.

What leads the ingredient list
Ingredient lists on pet food labels are ordered by weight as formulated, so the first items carry the most weight in the recipe. That makes the opening ingredients the most useful part of the label to read.

Named animal meals
Both recipes open with named animal meals rather than whole meat or vague terms like “meat by-products.” A meal is rendered protein with moisture removed, so it is concentrated protein. The Chicken & Turkey recipe leads with chicken meal and turkey meal; the Whitefish & Salmon recipe leads with whitefish meal and salmon meal. Naming the species is a genuine point in the brand’s favour, because it tells you what the protein comes from.
Plant ingredients
Peas, lentils, and chickpeas follow the animal meals in both recipes. Cats are obligate carnivores, and plant ingredients are a common feature of dry cat food, where they supply carbohydrate and help form the kibble. Their presence does not make the food unsuitable, but it is the main tradeoff independent reviewers point to, and it matters most for owners who want a food with a short, animal-only ingredient list. Lentils appear in the Chicken & Turkey list but not the Whitefish & Salmon list, so the two recipes are not identical in plant content.

Reading the guaranteed analysis and calories
The guaranteed analysis is a set of label minimums and maximums, not measured values for a particular bag. Both recipes guarantee at least 35.0% crude protein and 15.0% crude fat, with at most 4.5% crude fiber and 10.0% moisture. These numbers mean the bag is guaranteed to meet those limits; they say nothing about digestibility or how a specific cat will respond.
The calorie figures need more care. Per kilogram, the Whitefish & Salmon recipe is the more energy-dense food, at 3,782 kcal/kg compared with 3,567 kcal/kg for Chicken & Turkey. Per cup, the order reverses: Chicken & Turkey gives 412 kcal/cup and Whitefish & Salmon gives 390 kcal/cup. The gap reflects how the kibble packs into a measuring cup, not a difference in the food itself. If you want to match a daily calorie target precisely, feed by weight using the kcal/kg figure rather than by cup.

What the AAFCO statement does and does not establish
The manufacturer’s formulation statement on the Chicken & Turkey page reads: “Supreme Source® Chicken Meal and Turkey Meal Recipe Cat Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO cat food nutrient profiles for all life stages.” The Whitefish & Salmon page carries the same formulation statement under its own recipe name.
Two points matter here. First, AAFCO nutrient profiles are formulation standards. A statement that a food is formulated to meet them describes how the recipe was designed. It is a different kind of claim from a feeding trial, in which cats eat the food under test conditions and the results are measured. Neither page presents feeding-trial results, so the life-stage claim should be read as the manufacturer’s formulation claim. Second, the adequacy wording printed on the bag itself should match what the website says. If it does not, the bag wording is the one to trust.

What the independent review says
The most detailed independent write-up available is the Cats.com review of Supreme Source cat food. It scores brands across six criteria: species appropriateness, ingredient quality, variety, price, customer experience, and recall history. That scoring reflects the reviewer’s judgement and is not a veterinary consensus or a clinical test.
- Positive: the review credits the named animal meals at the top of each recipe.
- Tradeoff: it flags the plant-protein ingredients as a point against the food.
- Range: it notes that the brand sells only two cat foods, which limits rotation options.
- Sourcing: it states that current details on meat and ingredient sourcing are limited. Public material reviewed for this article does not establish where the meats or other ingredients come from, so do not assume a country of origin.
- Recalls: the review reports finding no recalls of Supreme Source cat food. That is a finding as of the review’s date, not a guarantee that a recall can never happen. Its discussion of recalls concerns other brands and should not be read as a Supreme Source recall history. For current notices, check the recall listings published by the relevant regulator.

Adult cats
The brand’s adult chart gives the following daily dry-food amounts by body weight. Feed once or twice daily, adjust the amount to keep your cat at a healthy weight, and provide clean water.
| Cat weight | Manufacturer’s daily amount (dry food) |
|---|---|
| Up to 4 lb | 1/4 to 1/2 cup |
| 5 to 9 lb | 1/2 to 2/3 cup |
| 10 to 14 lb | 2/3 to 1 cup |
Kittens
The Chicken & Turkey page gives kitten guidance by age, stated as a volume per 2 lb of body weight. Kittens grow quickly, so re-weigh them regularly and adjust the amount.
| Kitten age | Manufacturer’s guidance |
|---|---|
| 6 weeks to 4 months | About 1/2 cup per 2 lb |
| 4 to 7 months | About 1/3 cup per 2 lb |
| 7 to 12 months | About 1/4 cup per 2 lb |
Switching a cat to Supreme Source
The brand recommends a gradual change over 7 to 10 days. A sudden switch can upset a cat’s stomach even when the new food is suitable. One way to spread the change across that window:
- Days 1 to 3: mix about one quarter Supreme Source with three quarters of the old food.
- Days 4 to 6: move to roughly half and half.
- Days 7 to 10: use about three quarters Supreme Source, then switch fully.
- If stool softens, vomiting starts, or your cat refuses meals, slow the change or go back a step and contact your veterinarian if problems persist.
Who this food suits, and who should look elsewhere
Supreme Source fits a particular set of owners well. It is a practical choice if you want a dry food with named animal meals, a published guaranteed analysis, and a manufacturer statement covering all life stages, and you are comfortable with the plant ingredients listed.
It is a weaker fit in several situations:
- Your cat has a diagnosed food allergy or intolerance to chicken, turkey, fish, salmon, peas, lentils, or chickpeas. Check each ingredient against your vet’s findings before buying.
- Your cat is on a prescription or veterinarian-directed diet. Do not substitute a general-purpose food without veterinary input.
- You want full, verifiable sourcing information, since the current public detail is limited.
- You want variety or wet food. The brand currently offers two dry recipes only.
- You want a food whose claims rest on feeding-trial data. The published claims are formulation-based.
Where to buy
The Supreme Source Pet homepage lists both cat recipes and points to a store-finder and a Walmart purchase path. The Cats.com review reports Amazon and Chewy as channels. Stock, pack sizes, and prices change, so confirm them on the brand’s store finder or at the retailer before you buy.
