You scoop clumps into its opening, press a lever to move them into a sealed section lined with a refill bag, and empty the bin when it fills. The mechanism is simple. The decisions that matter before buying are the cost of the brand-specific refills and the fact that LitterZero’s own pages give two different figures for how long a refill lasts.
Everything in this review comes from LitterZero’s official product pages and FAQ, with one reference to Litter Genie’s official site for context. No independent laboratory test or side-by-side test of the product was found, so the odor, capacity and fit claims below are the manufacturer’s statements, not verified results.
How the system works
The brand’s FAQ describes the routine in one line: “It’s simple, just place LitterZero next to your litter box and scoop waste directly into it.” The product’s instructions break that into a short sequence:
- Place the bin beside the litter box, within reach of where you scoop.
- Open the top of the bin.
- Drop in the scooped clumps.
- Press the lever to move the waste into the contained section.
- Release the lever. The waste stays sealed in the refill liner until you empty the bin.
Your own scoop works fine. The FAQ answers “Do I need to use the included scoop?” with a qualified yes: the included scoop is optional if you already have one you prefer. The manufacturer says its scoop is designed to fit the bin’s opening and has three hole sizes, so check that your current scoop’s head will pass through the opening before you rely on it.

How long one refill lasts
LitterZero’s pages give two different estimates for a single cat:

For example, at one refill a month you would need 12 refills a year; at one every two months, six. Whether other brands’ liners work
The FAQ answers “Can I use other brand refill bags?” with a clear position: “LitterZero refills are custom-made with a 7-layer design that locks in odors and ensures a perfect fit. Other bags do not fit or seal properly, which means they can’t deliver the same odor-blocking performance.” That is the manufacturer’s view. No independent test of third-party liners was found, so the compatibility claim is unverified in either direction. If you are considering a cheaper generic bag, check whether it seals before you rely on it, and expect that the odor-control claims may not carry over.
Who this suits and who should look elsewhere
LitterZero is a reasonable match if you:
- want a manual bin with no power or electronics beside the litter box;
- are comfortable buying the brand’s own refills on an ongoing basis;
- have a single cat, or are willing to track your own refill rate in a multi-cat home, since no multi-cat figure is published;
- are in the continental United States, since the seller does not ship elsewhere (see the buying terms below).
Consider a different approach if you want to use inexpensive generic liners, if you need an independently tested odor claim, or if you cannot confirm the refill price and stock before buying.
