The Litter-Robot EVO is Whisker’s compact automatic self-cleaning litter box, listed by Whisker as its most compact model. It has a 20.6 × 24.3-inch footprint and stands 27.6 inches tall. Whisker rates it for up to two cats weighing 3 to 19 pounds each. If your floor space and your cats fall inside those figures, the EVO can fit. If either falls outside them, a larger Whisker model is the safer purchase, and a smaller footprint does not guarantee that every cat or household will be comfortable with it.

The footprint is the unit’s base, not the space you need. Leave room to reach the front and sides for cleaning, to pull out the waste drawer, and to keep the cat’s approach path clear of doors and foot traffic. A corner in a hallway and a corner in a laundry room can have the same square footage and very different practical clearance. The reviewer behind the CatVills review tested the EVO in a small laundry room. Her setup is a single data point, but it shows the kind of tight space the unit is designed for.
Cat count and cat size limits
Whisker’s stated capacity is up to two cats, with each cat weighing 3 to 19 pounds. Those limits are the main reason to choose the EVO over a larger model, and they are the first thing to check against your household.

- More than two cats: outside the stated capacity. Whisker’s current lineup points to other models for larger households.
- A cat over 19 pounds: outside the stated weight range for that cat.
- Especially large or tall cats: Whisker itself directs shoppers with these cats toward the Litter-Robot 4 or 5, so a cat’s size and build matter as much as its weight class.
Setup, Wi-Fi and the app
The EVO’s Wi-Fi requirement is strict. Whisker’s official FAQ states: “Litter-Robot EVO requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal and IPv4 or IPv6 addressing (5 GHz band not supported).” Check the router’s band settings and whether the router has a separate 2.4 GHz network before you plan the placement. If the only signal in the room is 5 GHz, the EVO’s connected features will not work there as the official FAQ describes.
- The official page says the app is compatible with Apple and Android mobile devices.
- Whisker says the product is currently sold and shipped only in the United States and Canada, and it is not app-compatible outside those countries.
- Check which features you need from the app before buying. The official materials cited here do not separate app-dependent and app-independent functions in detail, so confirm this in Whisker’s current documentation.
Whisker publishes firmware and app release notes at its WhiskerOS releases page, which lists EVO updates including a June 23, 2026 entry. Check that page and the app’s update instructions when you set up the unit or troubleshoot an error. The release notes do not establish that an update fixes any particular error, so treat an update as a step to try, not a guaranteed repair.

Litter: what Whisker says works
Litter choice has a direct effect on how the sensors and the drawer behave, so follow Whisker’s guidance closely. The CatVills review says the EVO accepts only clumping clay and rejects pellets, crystals and non-clumping formulas. Whisker’s own position is more nuanced, so the table below uses the manufacturer’s guidance.

If you want to try crystals, choose a non-white, non-translucent type and check that the granules pass through the screen. The official page does not give a test method for that, so the trial period matters here.

Drawer emptying, filters and replacement parts
The waste drawer is sealed and carbon-filtered. Whisker says a one-cat household may go as long as seven days between emptying the drawer. That interval depends on how often the cat uses the box, the cat’s size, and the number of cats, so one household’s schedule may not match another’s. The CatVills author reports emptying the drawer more often in her own home. That is her personal experience, not a Whisker specification.
- Included in the standard package: the unit, power supply, fence, five waste drawer liners, a carbon filter and a step.
- Liners: Whisker says its custom-fit liners fit all Litter-Robot models.
- Carbon filters and OdorTrap packs: Whisker recommends replacing them every 2 to 4 weeks for optimal odor absorption. Whisker adds that actual needs vary, so a household with more cats or heavier use may need to change them sooner.
- Litter-catching mat: Whisker says its LitterTrap mat fits any model.
Flooring
The CatVills review says the EVO will not work on carpet. Whisker’s current official FAQ says the EVO can be used on any type of flooring. Follow the manufacturer’s current statement, and confirm it in the FAQ before you buy if carpet is your floor. Treat the review’s carpet claim as contradicted by the current manufacturer guidance.

Price, trial and warranty
Whisker’s product page lists the EVO at “As low as $599.” That is a listed starting price, which can change, and it is not a guarantee of the price at checkout or at a third-party retailer. Whisker’s official page lists the following terms:
- 90-day in-home trial: Whisker says the customer pays return shipping.
- One-year warranty.
- WhiskerCare extended coverage: an optional offer described separately. Its terms are not part of the base purchase or the trial.
- Third-party sellers: purchases from another source follow that seller’s return policy, not Whisker’s trial terms.
How the EVO compares with the Whisker lineup
Whisker’s current lineup page describes the EVO alongside two larger models. The prices and capacities below are official listed starting prices and lineup claims, subject to change.

Dimensions for the Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro are not stated in the Whisker materials reviewed here, so compare floor space on the individual product pages before you decide. The larger models make sense for more cats or for cats that the EVO’s limits exclude.
Will your cat use it?
Whisker’s product page says over 95% of cats acclimate easily. That figure is undated on the page, and Whisker bases it on stated reasons for customer returns of the Litter-Robot 4 and 3 over a one-year period. It is not an EVO-specific acceptance study, and it is not an independent statistic. Use it as a rough signal about the product line, not as a forecast for your cat.
The better test is your cat’s behavior. Introduce the unit in the room where the cat already uses its box, keep the entry clear, and watch whether the cat hesitates at the entry or avoids the box after the cycle. The 90-day trial gives you time to make that observation.
How much weight to give the review
The CatVills review is by Nicole Etolen, updated April 18, 2026. It describes several months of use in a small laundry room and compares the EVO with other automatic boxes the author says she tested. The review is useful for its setup details and its household experience. Claims such as quiet operation, strong odor control and ease of setup are the reviewer’s own impressions. They are not measured results, so weigh them as one owner’s experience rather than as a benchmark.
Fit checklist before you buy
- Measure the floor space where the unit will sit, and compare it with the footprint in the measurements table, including room for access and cleaning.
- Check the entry clearance and the path your cat will use to reach the box.
- Confirm each cat’s weight is within 3 to 19 pounds, and that you have no more than two cats.
- Test the location for a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal, and check that your router provides IPv4 or IPv6 addressing.
- Confirm that you are in the United States or Canada if you plan to use the app.
- Confirm your flooring against Whisker’s current FAQ, and confirm the litter you plan to use against the litter table.
- Check the return and warranty terms of the seller you plan to buy from, and whether the 90-day in-home trial applies to your purchase.
If the answer to any of these is no, compare the larger Whisker models before ordering the EVO.
