Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix is a powder you mix into fresh meat and other recipe ingredients to make homemade cat meals. It is not a canned, bagged or ready-to-serve food, and the powder on its own should not be treated as a complete diet. Whether it suits a particular cat depends on the finished recipe, the meat you choose, and that cat’s health, which is a question for a veterinarian. This review covers what the product is, what it contains, how the brand says to prepare it, what reviewers reported, and where it is a poor fit.
What the product is
Holistic Vet Blend describes Feline Premix as a veterinarian-formulated supplement intended to complement fresh or homemade meals. The brand’s product copy says it helps provide complete and balanced nutrition when used with the company’s recipes. The Cats.com review describes it the same way: a powder mixed with fresh meat to make homemade cat food.
The distinction matters. The premix is one ingredient in a recipe. The finished meal is the thing a cat eats, and its nutrition depends on the premix, the meat, the liquid, the omega-3 source and any other additions. Do not add the powder to an existing food and assume the result is balanced.
The brand page lists the product at 3.175 oz and says it is for cats of all life stages. A separate senior formula is also sold.

Ingredients and guaranteed analysis
The manufacturer lists the following premix ingredients:
- Dried beef liver, beef kidney and beef heart
- Calcium carbonate and dicalcium phosphate
- Taurine
- Choline chloride
- Yeast
- Vitamins and trace minerals
- Kelp
The guaranteed analysis on the brand’s product page sets limits for the premix itself, not for the finished meal:
| Nutrient | Regular premix (brand page) | Senior premix |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum crude protein | 30% | Not stated in the brand copy cited here |
| Minimum crude fat | 6% | Not stated in the brand copy cited here |
| Maximum crude fiber | 2% | Not stated in the brand copy cited here |
| Maximum moisture | 5% | Not stated in the brand copy cited here |
Because the figures describe the powder, you cannot read them as the protein or fat content of a bowl of finished food. That depends on how much meat you add and what kind it is.

Beef content and who should be cautious
Every organ ingredient in the regular premix is beef-derived. The Cats.com review states that both the regular and senior premixes contain beef-based ingredients and may not be appropriate for a cat with a beef allergy or sensitivity, even if the owner substitutes another meat. That is a reason to review the formula carefully with a veterinarian, not a diagnosis. Keep in mind that the nutrient profile of the finished meal also changes with the meat you select, so swapping proteins is not a neutral change.

The brand’s directions treat the premix as one part of a complete recipe. Follow the recipe and quantities printed on your package and on the brand’s site, since the measurements are specific to the formula. The steps below reflect the brand’s general process, with the ratio cited by the Cats.com review noted where it applies.
- Choose the meat called for by the recipe. The review reports that the reviewer used pork loin and chicken breast, which is her choice rather than a brand requirement.
- Measure the premix exactly. The Cats.com review cites a ratio of 2 tablespoons of premix to 1 pound of cooked meat, and says one tub is intended to combine with six pounds of meat. Confirm this against your own package before measuring.
- Add the liquid and the omega-3 source the recipe specifies. The brand’s directions mention an omega-3 source, and the Cats.com review names an Icelandic omega-3 oil from the brand as a related product.
- Add cooked egg only if the recipe calls for it. Egg is listed as optional.
- Blend to the texture you want. The brand names a food processor or an immersion blender as possible tools.
- Mix the premix in thoroughly, then portion and store the food according to the storage guidance on the package.
Two practical points follow from these steps. First, the premix has to be distributed evenly through the meat, so uneven mixing means some portions carry more of it than others. Second, a homemade batch is only as consistent as the cooking and measuring behind it, so keeping written records of each batch helps if a cat’s intake or stool changes.

What reviewers reported
Cats.com rates Holistic Vet Blend 7.5 out of 10 overall, or 45 out of 60 (B+). These are editorial ratings from that site, not clinical outcomes or independent measurements.
| Category | Score |
|---|---|
| Species appropriateness | 9/10 |
| Ingredient quality | 8/10 |
| Product variety | 7/10 |
| Price | 5/10 |
| Customer experience | 7/10 |
| Recall history | 9/10 |
On recalls, the review says it found no apparent product recalls in the brand’s history. That is the review’s finding from its own search, not a guarantee that no recall will occur.
The review’s author, Kate Barrington, reports preparing both the regular and senior premixes with pork loin and chicken breast. She writes that her cats ate both recipes most readily while the food was warm and appeared to tolerate them. This is one reviewer’s experience with her own cats, not a controlled feeding study, and it does not establish how another cat will respond.

Customer feedback summarized in the same review is mixed. Some reviewers say their cats ate the homemade food, while others say their cats refused it. Palatability is clearly individual, so a cat’s willingness to eat one batch is not a reliable forecast for the next.

The brand states the following. These are manufacturer statements, not independent certifications:
- The product is made in the USA.
- It uses human-grade, grass-fed beef organs.
- It is veterinarian-formulated.
- It is made in a facility that produces human food.
- The product page describes testing of ingredients and finished batches.
Cats.com reports that it found limited public detail about sourcing and manufacturing beyond these claims, and that its direct inquiry did not produce additional specifics. If sourcing transparency is important to you, ask the brand for its testing documentation before you buy.

What “holistic” does and does not tell you
The word “holistic” is a marketing term, not a nutritional standard. Veterinarian Jennifer Coates, DVM, writes for PetMD:
“But keep in mind that the words “natural” and “holistic” in no way imply that a cat food provides all the nutrients, in the right proportions, that cats need to thrive.”
PetMD advises owners to look for an AAFCO statement on the label indicating that a food is complete and balanced, and to consult a veterinarian about food choices. A premix label can’t do that job alone, because the powder is designed to be combined with other ingredients. Whether the finished recipe meets adequacy standards is a question you should bring to a veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, and the Cats.com review recommends that route for individual needs.
Regular and senior formulas
The Cats.com review reports that the senior premix contains higher levels of B vitamins and fiber and reduced phosphorus compared with the regular formula. These are the reviewer’s descriptions, not individualized clinical advice. Phosphorus and fiber needs vary with a cat’s age, kidney health and other conditions, so do not switch formulas based on this comparison alone. Use the guaranteed-analysis figures on each package and ask a veterinarian which formula, if either, fits the cat in question.
Price, stock and where to buy
When the brand’s product page was accessed in 2026, it showed a price of $29.99 and sold-out status. Price and stock change, so check the brand’s current listing before planning around either. Cats.com linked an Amazon listing, but current marketplace availability, seller identity and pricing were not confirmed for this article. Check that listing directly before you buy. The meat, liquid and omega-3 source are additional costs that depend on the recipe and on how many batches you prepare.
Quick Recap
Who this may suit and who should look elsewhere
- May suit: owners who already prepare fresh or homemade meals, have a veterinarian or veterinary nutritionist reviewing the full recipe, and can measure and mix consistently.
- Use caution: cats with a beef allergy or sensitivity, cats with a medical condition that calls for a specific diet, and any cat whose owner plans to feed the premix without a complete recipe.
- Look elsewhere: owners who want a ready-to-serve food, who cannot commit to measuring and preparing each batch, or who need a food with a documented complete-and-balanced label for the finished meal.
