Choose the Litter-Robot 5 if your cat is more likely to use an open-entry box or you want individual weight and visit tracking; choose the PetSnowy SNOW+ if an enclosed design, a tracking-catching vestibule, and a waste bin that seals automatically matter more. In its April 30, 2026 comparison, Cats.com reported that both handled self-cleaning and provided similar odor control during its test. Its observations are useful, but individual cats may respond differently to an entry, ramp, or covered space.
What differs most between Litter-Robot 5 and SNOW+?
The clearest distinction is the experience around the box: Litter-Robot 5 has a globe with a wide, open entry, while SNOW+ is a rectangular, fully enclosed unit with a vestibule. Their monitoring and waste-containment features also differ.

Dimensions are reported by Cats.com; allow for the unit’s shape, entry approach, and the clearance needed for access and maintenance. Prices are not directly comparable across storefronts or dates: Whisker’s cited product page is its Canadian storefront, and its prices are in Canadian dollars.
Which design is more likely to suit your cat?
Choose the open entry if your cat avoids covered boxes
The Litter-Robot 5’s broad, open entry may be the better starting point for a cat that dislikes enclosed spaces. Cats.com reported that its test cats adapted to both models, but its smaller and older cats found the Litter-Robot 5 somewhat easier to access. That is an observation from the comparison, not a guarantee for every cat.

Choose the enclosure if your cat prefers a covered space
SNOW+’s enclosed body may appeal to a cat that prefers privacy, and its vestibule is intended to catch litter tracked out of the box. Cats.com described the ramp as smooth and steep, which may be difficult for some small or senior cats; the authors suggested that an external step could help. Assess the actual step-up and your cat’s confidence before relying on a ramp or accessory.
Check the whole footprint, not just the listed dimensions
The two units have different proportions, so compare their dimensions with the available floor area and the approach your cat needs. Also account for room to remove waste, clean the unit, and reach any controls. A box that fits on paper may still be awkward if placed in a tight corner.
How do odor control and waste handling compare?
In its test, Cats.com reported similar odor control from the two models. It described the Litter-Robot 5 as using a sealed drawer and carbon filter, and SNOW+ as having an integrated UV feature; the authors said they could not determine whether SNOW+’s UV worked as promised. Neither the comparison nor the manufacturer descriptions establish that either unit eliminates odor in every home.

PetSnowy describes SNOW+ as having a 10 L auto-sealing waste bin and a TiO₂ odor-control system. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified results in the comparison. Its product page also displays “90.5% Ammonia Removal Rate,” but does not identify a publishing organization or publication year for that figure, so it should not be treated as an independently established statistic.

Litter-Robot 5 offers more detailed cat data
The comparison describes a built-in scale that can distinguish up to five cats by weight, app-based usage tracking, a color LCD, and WasteID. Whisker’s Canadian product page says the unit supports up to five cats weighing 1.4–13.6 kg and provides a seven-day view of visits and individual cat weights. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance guarantees.

Cats.com reported in its April 2026 article that advanced insights and long-term trends required Whisker+, then listed at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. It said basic Litter-Robot 5 features were available without the subscription. Check Whisker’s current subscription terms before buying; those figures are dated.
SNOW+ keeps basic use separate from app tracking
Cats.com described SNOW+’s app as optional and its data tracking as more limited than the Litter-Robot 5’s. It also reported that SNOW+ retains basic functionality without the app. If detailed visit and weight histories are a priority, compare the current apps and subscription terms rather than assuming their tracking is equivalent.

Follow the current manual for the exact model before changing litter. The manufacturers’ guidance differs, particularly for non-clay options.

What should you know about kitten and senior-cat access?
Access is a practical fit question, not just a feature comparison. Cats.com’s test observations point to the Litter-Robot 5 as somewhat easier for its smaller and older cats, while noting that its fence can increase the step-up height. SNOW+’s steep ramp may challenge some small or senior cats. Watch whether your cat can enter and exit comfortably; a cat that hesitates, slips, or avoids the unit may need a different setup.
Whisker recommends using Litter-Robot 5 in “semi-automatic” mode for kittens under 1.4 kg, according to its Canadian product page. Consult the current manual for setup and safety details rather than assuming an automatic cycle is appropriate for a kitten.
How should you compare the price?
Cats.com listed the Litter-Robot 5 at $799 and SNOW+ at $699 in its April 30, 2026 article—a $100 difference at those listed prices before discounts. These are dated figures, not current quotes. PetSnowy’s official page showed a promotional $499 price against a crossed-out $699 when accessed October 7, 2026. Whisker’s cited page is Canadian, so its prices are in Canadian dollars and should not be compared directly with US-dollar prices.

Check the price in your region on the day you buy, including any promotion, shipping, return terms, and warranty. If you are weighing ongoing costs, include the current Whisker+ terms only if you want its advanced insights; Cats.com reported that basic Litter-Robot 5 features did not require the subscription.
