About the Field Spaniel
The Field Spaniel is a medium-sized spaniel breed from England. It was first developed as an all-black show dog in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and it was not popular for hunting work at that time. In the middle of the twentieth century, the breed was redeveloped with longer legs to make it more suitable for field work. It is now considered rare and is registered by The Kennel Club as a Vulnerable Native Breed. The listed height is 46 and weight is 18. Its history links show breeding with a later renewed suitability for work in the field.
