About the Russian Trotter
The Russian Trotter is a trotting horse breed from Russia. It developed through crossing native Orlov Trotters with imported American Standardbred horses beginning around 1890. By about 1950, the Russian Trotter was considered an established breed, although some crossing with American stallions continued after that point. A stud book was established in 1927, and by 1989 it extended to 23 volumes. The breed’s listed history therefore covers both its foundation through cross-breeding and the establishment of records for it. The available facts identify the Russian Trotter’s country of origin and trotting type, but do not describe its appearance, size, temperament, current population or care needs.
