The Russkiy Toy is a very small dog breed that originated in Russia and was developed from the English Toy Terrier. The breed has two coat types: smooth and long. The smooth-coated dogs were once called Russian Toy Terriers, while the long-coated dogs were known as Moscow Long-Haired Toy Terriers. The two varieties were brought together under one Russian Toy Terrier name in 1988; “Terrier” was later removed when the breed entered the Fédération Cynologique Internationale’s official breed list in 2006. Russia’s first official standard covering both varieties was written in 1966. The breed entered the American Kennel Club’s Foundation Stock Service in 2008 and has been eligible for AKC companion events since 2010. Listed measurements are 25 in height and 2.3 in weight.
