Google’s “Pangolin Love” was a playable Valentine’s Day Doodle released on February 13, 2017. Its four-part game followed two pangolins through a romantic quest—and used the characters to introduce players to the threat of wildlife trafficking. It is a historical Doodle, not a feature currently running on Google’s homepage.
What was Google’s “Pangolin Love” Doodle?
Launched the day before Valentine’s Day in 2017, “Pangolin Love” paired two pangolins in a lighthearted story about preparing a gift for a mate. Contemporary coverage described it as four mini-games set in Ghana, India, China, and the Philippines. Those locations were part of the game’s reported journey, not a claim that pangolins are native to all four places. Tech Times reported on the Doodle on February 13, 2017.
The game’s playful premise gave its conservation theme an accessible entry point: players helped a pangolin make a romantic gift while encountering an animal many people knew little about.
How did the game work?
The reported sequence moved through several short activities rather than one continuous adventure:

The 2017 report said the Doodle could be played on desktop, Android, and iOS at launch. That describes its original availability; it does not guarantee that the archived game works on current devices or browsers. The same report estimated development at about a year, a figure attributed to the contemporary coverage rather than a separately confirmed Google production timeline.
Why did the Doodle feature pangolins?
Pangolins are mammals covered in scales, not reptiles. They can curl into a ball when threatened, and they are generally nocturnal and solitary. There are eight recognized species—four in Africa and four in Asia—and their conservation classifications vary. WWF describes their status as ranging from vulnerable to critically endangered; it would be inaccurate to imply that every species has the same classification.

The urgent shared concern is illegal wildlife trade. WWF calls the pangolin the world’s most trafficked mammal and identifies demand for meat and scales as major drivers, with pangolin leather also sought in the Americas. WWF also reports that more than one million pangolins were trafficked over a 10-year period and cites a 2019 estimate of one pangolin poached every three minutes. Those figures refer to the periods and estimates WWF describes, not a current annual count.
The contrast between a charming love story and a little-known trafficking crisis made pangolins an effective subject for a broad audience. That is an interpretation of the Doodle’s framing, not a measured claim about its conservation impact.

Can you still play “Pangolin Love”?
It is no longer a live Valentine’s Day homepage feature. Google maintains an official Doodle archive, but the archive’s existence does not establish that this specific game remains playable. Archived interactive content can be affected by retired scripts, missing assets, browser changes, or mobile limitations, so do not assume it will load on every device.
