These three free crochet turtle Christmas ornaments share an intermediate amigurumi skill level but have distinct looks: a strawberry turtle, a sunflower turtle, and a tortoise in a Santa hat. Their approximate finished sizes range from 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5 inches). Each design adds a separate hanging loop, using gold thread or cord, jute twine, or red velvet ribbon.
The patterns and estimates below come from The Turtle Hub’s ornament roundup, published April 29, 2026. Finished sizes and project times are the roundup’s estimates, not independent measurements.

The skill list for all three includes working in the round, a magic ring, single crochet, increases and decreases, front-loop-only (FLO) and back-loop-only (BLO) stitches, attaching parts, and basic embroidery for facial features.
What you need
Gather the yarn and hook specified for the design you choose, plus fiber fill, a tapestry needle, and scissors. Fabric glue is listed as optional. The roundup names milk cotton yarn in several colors; the specific colors and loop supplies differ by ornament.

How to add each hanging loop
Strawberry turtle: gold thread or cord
Cut 12 inches of gold metallic embroidery thread or thin gold cord. Pass it through the top and shell, then tie a knot and tuck the knot into the stuffing. The resulting loop is approximately 3 inches long.

Sunflower turtle: jute twine
Cut an 8-inch piece of 3 mm jute twine. Pass it through the body, secure it with a knot, and tuck the knot inside the stuffing. The loop is approximately 2.5 inches long.
Festive tortoise: red velvet ribbon
Use 1/4-inch red velvet ribbon and sew it to the back base of the Santa hat tip to form an approximately 2-inch loop. Unlike the other two designs, this loop is attached to the hat rather than passed through the stuffed body.

Choose a pattern by look and project preference
- Pick the strawberry turtle for a bright fruit-inspired ornament and a metallic-looking hanger.
- Pick the sunflower turtle for a floral design and rustic twine. Its peacock-stitch petals are described as taking a little longer than the other designs; that is the roundup author’s estimate, not a timed comparison.
- Pick the festive tortoise for a Santa-hat theme and a ribbon loop attached behind the hat.
