Two-year-old Boden Allen went missing near Seligman, Arizona, on April 14, 2025, and was found safe the next morning on rancher Scotty Dunton’s property. News reports credited Dunton’s dog, Buford, with helping bring him to safety. Reports put the disappearance at about 16 hours and the ranch around seven miles from home, but they do not establish the precise route or how long Buford accompanied the child.
What happened to Boden Allen?
Contemporaneous reports say Boden disappeared from his home near Seligman at about 5 p.m. local time on April 14, 2025. He was found the following morning on Dunton’s ranch property. CBS News and ABC News described the time missing as about 16 hours; CBS reported that the ranch was approximately seven miles from home. How was Boden found?
Reporting identifies Scotty Dunton as the rancher and Buford as his dog. CBS News reported that Dunton asked Boden whether his dog had found him, then called police to say the child was on his property.
In an account carried by Georgia Public Broadcasting in an interview with the sheriff’s office, Dunton said he had heard about the missing child before going to town. As he drove out of his driveway, he noticed Buford sitting near the entrance. This supports that Dunton saw his dog near the entrance, but it does not establish the precise route Boden took or how long Buford was with him.
